I took Kayleigh to Little Monkey Bizness (a indoor play area) and there was a 20 something mom there. I was taking pictures of Kayleigh, and I heard this mother say something about a grandma. Then I heard Kayleigh say "That's my momma" I heard the mom say something like "Oh, sorry".

This is the first time I have been mistaken for her grandmother (well... at least as far as I know) I actually had tears in my eyes. I realize things are what they are, and that I really am old enough to be her grandmother, but it was still quite upsetting to me ;(

I'm gonna go get my cane and shawl out of storage now... :cursing:

Julie, with more and more women having kids at a later age, I'm surprised someone would say something like that. Don't bust out the shawl just yet. Maybe in about thirty years.:P

forget about the shawl, unless you're cold! you're not old and YOU DO NOT LOOK OLD! I think that person was just being hateful! There is no way that you look like anyone's grandma! I promise you that!!!

I know exactly how you feel. I am 46 and I have a five year old. I have had people (that I don't know) say I was his Grandma. Even worse, some people have even looked at my teenage daughters and thought one of them was his mom.:P

Now that I have lost some weight, I must look a little younger, because I don't get that anymore. It used to hurt my feelings, but I tell myself that I got the lapband so that I can be healthy and be around for my son.

JULIE, young people are no more able to gauge the age of anyone older than they are any more than we are able to distinguish a 15-yr-old from a 25 yr old! i see "kids" drinkin' in bars that i swear look as if they still need babysitters! :crying:

u don't look old enough to be anyone's grandma!:P

Julie there is NO WAY you look like a grandma ( whatever that look is suppose to be ).

Some people are really way off on guessing things like age and weight. The kids at my school blew me away one day when they guessed our principal to be 75. He's around 40.

I know it's hard to not let comments hurt and ask me yesterday and I would have cried for you but today is a strong day and I just believe embracing where we are and the journey we are on is a powerful thing. Not many people care enough about themselves to actually undertake a surgical procedure to GET to that healthy size. All of us have done that. Julie I'm stoked that you got out of the house, drove your princess to a special playspace, and even brought the camera to capture the occasion. You could only top that by scrapbooking the event!!

I think you are beautiful you red headed sexy mama! All in good time.:tt1:

An update on my recent fill in Colorado.

I'm once again on a good grade downward in my weight loss. Most exciting is the span of time between meals. I didn't realize how much I was able to consume and how close together until I got home and into my routine. Charting the times and volume of food I have noticed a big difference. I was writing Mal a note and mentioned to her that this is the first time in my life that I can eat solids for a day ( I typically do Protein drinks) and the next morning awake and not feel hungry, in fact, I could easily go without eating. Of course I'm not going to do that but that sensation of fullness and NOT having that nawing sensation from hunger is staying with me. I think this is what normal people feel like.

My GUT is telling me that this is the one that's going to take me home or darn close to it. I'll be having that body lift before I hit goal but decided to get down below 200 pounds before I have it done. My personal goal is 175 and then I'll be ready for the operating table to sculpt and remove all the extra flaps and hangin' bacon.

I'm excited.

So arm in arm here we go on these challenges, I'm participating in each one until I hit that 175.

I appreciate you all so very much. All of you that I've spoken to and shared my life with are priceless jewels.

Patty

Julie, that's absolutely absurd. And I'm with Deb. Young'uns think we're all old and we think they're all children.

So I went in today and had what is, I hope, my last fill. I got .8 cc's - the most I've ever had at once. But since I've only lost 4 lbs in the past 4 months, I'm ready to be a bit more aggressive.

I plan to have my surgery in about 9 or 10 weeks. I would like to lose 15 lbs by then. I figure I'll probably lose 5ish lbs of skin. I'll be fairly close to my goal by then!! Woohoo!

It is my bandiversary tomorrow and I've lost a total of 54 lbs. Not where I wanted to be after one year, but I'm okay with that. I caught sight of myself in a mirror today and was actually quite pleased with what I saw. Yay me!!

I love your goal of size 9 in 09. You will make it happen.

What work are you having done? and where?

I'm gonna have a breast lift and Tummy Tuck. I thought about having some small implants as well (my boobs have totally deflated) but my mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer which means that I have it on BOTH sides of my family and I don't want to do anything that might make it harder for early diagnosis. So I'll just have little, perky ones.

I'm really excited about getting this pannus gone! I should probably wait longer, but I am on sabbatical this fall, so it's the perfect time to get it done! And we're going to the Southern Caribbean the end of November, so I want to be healed by then.

Well, I think it's okay to be scared, and very normal. I remember I was really nervous that last week. Surgery has risks . . . so does driving a car, walking on the sidewalk, taking a shower, etc. And being obese REALLY has a lot of risks.

I had one of the more unusual complications with my surgery (long story) and still came through with flying colors and have no regrets whatsoever . . . except for the fact that I waited so long to do it.

You have to just turn a deaf ear to the naysayers. They mean well, but it's not their life and it's not their body. You will be so happy to have taken this important step in your life. Enjoy!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
