Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what to put down. I weigh 198.6 which is still kind of unbelieveable! So I have 13.6 to lose to hit goal so I guess I might have been off on my goal to lose. So I guess put me down for -4.9 unless our weigh in starts next Monday.

I just got a fill on Friday and usually it take about 10-14 days to kick in. Not this time! It has kicked in. I have to watch my bites and chew. I haven't had to do that in a long long time. We'll see what this next couple of weeks has in store!

We are taking our weight today, and next Monday is our first official weigh-in.

Julie-Ann, how did it go with your friend? Weren't you going to tell her on your long trip to Denver????

Hi Julie.Ann,

The same thing happened to me. I went in for my 3rd fill and nothing for three weeks - then WOW! It's been four seeks since then, and I definitely feel the restriction. I just really need to quit the late night munchies, so I am really pleased to be in this challenge. I need some acocuntability!

I did take my friend and it was great! My 7 hour drive FLEW BY! I told her about it and she was very curious and I loved answering questions about it. I don't answer questions since I keep this to myself. I think I made the right decision to share it with another friend. I have one more that I will share with when the time is right. Thanks for asking.

Funny thing with this fill....it is my noon meal that seems to be tight. Morning and night is no problem generally. Strange.

I'm glad your fill is doing great things for you too!

Happy to hear you're doing well, Jamie.

Broccoli is EVIL! I used to like it pre-band, but now...no way. We should make a list of our now un-favorite foods. I'll add these: blueberries, eggs, bread, Pasta, steak...

Broccoli, zuchini (almost killed me last night) I do okay with everything else! But these are the worst!

Hey! Did you all meet at Red Robin?

chicken breast. Can't do it. I've tried and tried and I can't get it down. Broccoli is tough, and so are apples unless I really pay attention and chew chew chew. Potatoes are a problem.

I ate one of those teeny filet mignons last night. It goes down with no problem at all. I can eat salad too . . . no problem. I really don't get it.

Now here is the list of evil things that I can eat with no problem. Ice cream (of course), chocolate, crackers, cheese, etc etc. Calorie laden, fat-full, tasty yummy stuff. Bad bad bad.

Have you noticed there are two different PB's? When I got stuck the other evening on zucchini, (this is really gross) I burped and a huge amount of thick mucous came up. I never had a pain, but a slight discomfort feeling. But I could have ignored it easily because it wasn't bad. After I burped and PB'd, I felt fine. Then about 5 mins later the same thing happened.

Then previously on Broccoli, I've gotten stuck and the pain for extremely bad. I have burped loudly and the broccoli came out with no excess mucous. With the zucchini, it never came up.

Sorry that is pretty gross, but I was wondering if these PB's are similar to others. I had no idea there were two different kinds.

I didn't get stuck until 11 months out, so I'm still learning these things.

I just vomit up the food when it is hurting. I get a stabbing heartburn feeling in the middle of my chest. All I have to do is think about it, and up it comes. And then I feel so much better!

Now, this is different than having the flu type vomiting, because it isn't all bile-laden from being digested in my stomach. It just looks like chewed up food.

Yuck - are we disgusting girls or what??

LOL! Yes, 4 of us braved the snow to get to Red Robin: snowgator, Kayleigh's Mommy, magaines, and laptastic, at least I think I remember everybody's screen name correctly.

Want to plan a May Red Robin night? How about Tuesday May 5th?

Tuesday May 5 works for me. I live near Brighton, and chickened out about making the drive. I look forward to meeting fellow bandsters!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
