Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'd like to join you on April 1st at Red Robin, but how do I find you? I can see myself just taking a seat with random people. It could be embarassing.:)

If you come just a few minutes before seven, we'll be sitting on the bench just inside the restaurant. See you then!

Same should apply for you My Dear! You and Mini have been through a lot lately. Your focus should be on taking care of self. If you need some comfort food, go for it. It's just a temporary situation.

Thank you so much Dee! I was just feeling like I needed a little justification for the way i have been eating!

Hi everyone,

First, let me say to Mini and Lotza, I am praying for both of you. Mini, I am sorry for your loss. Cancer is such a HORRIBLE word. I hate it!!! :) Stay strong. (I know....not an easy thing)

Thanks so much for your support!

Go ahead and put me down for -2.5 this week. It seems like almost every time I schedule a fill my body panics and starts dropping weight again lol! Well too bad, I am not putting it off any more, because i really need to keep working on it.

Good news (as good as terminal cancer can be) for my Dad. The Doctor seems to think that the new meds are helping slow the growth and he isn't even going to do another mri for 2 more months! My Dad doesn't have any of the bad headaches from the tumor in his brain that he had from the first and he isn't reacting badly to the meds, so he will keep taking them. If it keeps going the way it is, he could be around for Christmas. The Dr said that the meds might help extend his time to a year or so. Right now we will take all the time we can get with him. It's hard with people who don't really understand that his cancer has no cure though. They think "Why not just do chemo?". Well, he is on an oral chemo, but they just don't understand that this cancer kills fast. My dad found out that he had a 2nd cousin who died of the same thing in 3 months, so he has already had longer than that. Bad news is that now we know it is genetic, and in the family. I have to be more careful to use sunscreen and wear hats now (I've been pretty good at it because I am so fair skinned that I burn easy anyway) But I worked really hard and didn't get burned once at disneyland!! Wow, just realized that this is really long, and kind of rambling. Thanks for listening!

Hello Friends:

Be sure and check the sale fliers for your finer stores. I love Estee Lauder and Ralph Lauren. Estee Lauder has a free gift with purchase and though it is only a tote bag, Ralph Lauren is always good to sooth the savage work beast.

No Loss for me this week. Not surprising, I've had a rough last three days. Did anyone notice the weather around the United States. That would be one reason. Pain has been yesterday and today.

the first time I went to meet everyone at Red Robin, I had no idea who to meet... so I stood at the door and luckily Marilyn saw a fat woman who looked lost - and she came and got me!

Like Snowgator says, we sit on the bench at the door until about 10 after 7pm. Join us!!!

Here are a couple pics from our trip. One is my parents with their second grandchild, and the other is my sisters and I.

I am so happy to hear the news that your Dad's meds are helping him with his headaches. I pray everyday for your family and I hope he is able to make many more wonderful memories with his children and wife.

I love your pictures! You are looking great Miss 250!

I'm sorry to hear you're having more pain due to the weather. It's been bizarre here! One day we are in the 70's the next day we are in a full on blizzard! Thankfully it was that heavy wet spring snow, so it's melting pretty quickly.

I love the freebies at Estee Lauder and Ralph Lauren! Sometimes you can get some great things! I also cannot believe some of the deals in the store. We were at Walmart the other day and I got a pair of 1x jeans for $2.00! Two dollars!!! Amazing!

I am -2.6 this week. Looking foraward to meeting up at Red Robin :tongue_smilie:

See you at Red Robin on Wednesday!!!

I'm excited to see you too! And it will be nice to get away for a few days, even though it's a conference. I will get to see some of my friends from grad school, so that will be fun.

sorry to hear about your loss...several people seem to be losing loved ones lately....sad....

wish i were going to be in the area for the get together. say "hey" to everyone.

well, gained and lost the same 9 pounds this week. back to where I was at beginning of challenge. scale isn't moving but the inches appear to be as clothes keep getting larger. just wish the scale would do something!

weather here has been odd too. we were at our place in crooked river on Thurs, Fri., and Sat. Friday so warm we had on shorts and tank tops. Then we had to leave Sat. or we would have been stuck in 10-20 inches of snow on the way home. And it is hailing right at the moment. I am soooo ready for sun.

Look forward to seeing everybody on Wed! I'm probably going to bring my friend Kathy, too. She had LB surgery in Jan. by another doc.

Does anyone need size 18's/20, on the tall side? I can bring mine on Wed night.

Kayleigh's Mommy: how is your MIL doing after her surgery? Sorry I didn't get to see you that day in recovery, they kept me in pre-op the entire day.

Has anyone found new silverware in a smaller size? I was at crate & barrell over the weekend and found a nice set called "hazel" which is very delicate and streamlined. You can see it on the C&B website, too. Just wondered if there were any other options. My standard size huge forks and spoons are not doing me, or my family, any favors.

I am one pound away from being half-way to goal. Darn that one pound - keeps hanging on me!

Oh, if anybody is trying to improve their belly scars, I had Jennie Powell, the RN at Lone Tree Facial Plastic Surgery Center treat mine with the v-beam laser, and it worked pretty well to reduce the redness in only a few days. www.lonetreefacial.com

Hey! I would love the 18-20's! I"m on the taller side of life!

I tried Bio-oil and it didn't work. I was diligent with applying it twice a day for 45 days. Not one bit of change in my scars.

I'm going to check out the tinier silverware. That's so cute!

Hi, I'm looking for suggestions on which hotel to book that's close to Crown Point Surgery Center. My main concerns are comfortable beds and cleanliness. Any suggestions? Thanks, Susie

I stayed at the Westin Hotel. It was very close to the surgery center and very comfortable. They give a small discount for patients. Natalie sent me a list of hotels. It was on that list. I would stay there again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
