Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Great, see you there! Anyone else want to join us?

Which Rockbottom Brewery location on April 7? I had surgery with Dr. K. on Nov. 24, 2008 and am losing SLOWLY...but steadily.

I'd love a chance to meet with some Denver area bandsters! Can I join you?

Mary

I am sooooo sorry that I've been so bad about posting as of late, and I'm way behind on reading, and I missed the weigh in this past weekend entirely. My dad had surgery for his melanoma last Thursday and they had to go back in this morning as they didn't get it all. Luckily, the lymph nodes were clear though. My MIL had the lower lobe of one lung removed this morning and they found another lesion in the upper part of the lung . . . won't know the results of the biopsy on that or her lymph nodes for 2 days. Luckily, they are in the same hospital, just a few hundred yards down the hall from one another.

I will weight next Saturday. Good job to everybody who lost! Sorry for the driveby!

Whoa, Mini, that is a lot goin' on. You and yours are in my thoughts.

well, got back from Palm Springs Tuesday evening. My, how sunshine can lift one's spirits...and one's weight! Won't be weighing in until the end, I am afraid. Like Mini and Mexico, I, too, gained. I am sure it is related to "water gain" but there was NO Water involved, unless it was the back to my scotch! Margaritas by the pool, wine with dinner, margaritas in restaurants...ahhhhh...the good life. But now back to reality and discipline.

Hey, where's Dee?

We usually meet at Red Robin once a month. We'd love to have you with us. I understand that we won't be meeting at Rockbottom Brewery since Patty won't be here.

April 1st, Mini will be here. We need to figure out a place to meet and we can all get together.

Hey, where's Dee?

I'm here Sweetie!

thanks for asking.

I've been dealing with a lot of depression lately. Night shift is kicking my butt and I'm getting ready to take my daughter to college. I'll have an empty nest and it's something I am so sad about. I'm so happy for her! But after being married for 22 years, I never imagined I'd be alone when our daughter left for school.

Howdy!

Patty and I are going to be in Denver for fills on April 7th so we're meeting up at the Rockbottom in Englewood at 7:00 PM on the 7th. We'd love for you to come, and anyone else who's up for it!

Actually Patty isn't going to make it on the 7th, as far as I know. I am not sure I'm going to be in town, either, but if I am I'd love to meet with you and anyone else.

We're going to meet on the 1st when Mini gets here. We usually meet monthly at the Red Robin at Arapahoe and I-25. We've been doing that for over 2 years. We meet and take a picture to post here online. We missed the month of March.

Well I went to a conference this week. I was gone Tues-Fri. I was very scared about getting off of my routine and eating out every meal. WHEW! I have another trip next month. This is the time every year that I lose my momentum and give up. This is a huge victory for me! Good luck to everyone else too! After weigh ins this week I will start posting totals. We are getting close to April 1st!

Hi guys,

Put me down for -2 this week. It has really slowed compared to what I had been doing. Too much snacking:cursing:

Dee, I know what you are going through. When my daughter left for college, I would have never thought that I would be on my own. Luckily, I have two kids still at home to keep my mind occupied. She comes home often to visit which makes it nice BUT she has a boyfriend now who comes up to visit. He lives about 4 hours away and he travels here to see her. They met through a mutual friend. Scares me a little that she might ditch school and family and go stay with him, but she keeps telling me no. I hope that she stays focused.

Keep your chin up!:) It does get easier with time. I will be thinking about you. I wish I lived close by because I think we could be good friends.

Congratulations on everyone's losses.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
