Wait Mini, are you getting married?? I thought you already had a hubby... :tongue2:

Oh my! Yes, I've been married for about a gazillion years to the nicest guy on earth. This is my 29 year old daughter who is getting married. As mother-of-the-bride I have LOTS of stuff to do.

Aww, congrats on being married for a gazillion years! I plan to be married that long myself, as long as my husband gets his offended gas under control. Even since I've been banded, my gas is still no match for his! :tongue2:

Enjoy your MOB duties, I know my mom had a blast! Good luck!

Hi gals!

Mini~Yes, I need a fill. I hope I can get in for one soon. I am down 2 pounds since trying to get back on track with my workouts. I figured I would just go to the gym everyday. It is kicking my butt, I love it though! The working out has been the easy part for me, it's making the wrong food choices and overeating at night that has me fighting the scale...

Dee~Sorry to hear about your job. I hope things work out. We spend so much time at our jobs, you deserve to love your job. I can't believe your one year is coming up! WOW!

Stay warm today! brrrr, it's freeezing out there!

Good day all Bandsters!

I gotta admit ladies, I know why I'm at a stand-still as far as weight loss goes. I'm not working out. I've not done a damn thing since surgery. No treadmill, no elliptical...nothing. I've been as lazy as ever. And that's all my fault.

I need to get motivated, and I need to do it quick. As my dad put it to me last night, "You did this to yourself, now you need to do what you need to do in order to make it work. It won't work by itself!!!"

I'm posting this to keep me accountable. I have a treadmill in my living room that points directly at the TV so I have NO EXCUSE not to get on it and walk for at least 30mins a day. NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

Now, don't start getting down on yourself about this. Exercising is a tough habit for some of us to develop. As for your lack of weight loss . . . .ummmm, you just had your first fill AND you did lose last week, ya know.

There ya' go Jamie! Just do it! I have to tell myself to just get to the gym. Wether my workout is a weak one or a full out sweat and panting, I am "moving" my body and "nothing happens if nothing happens" You can do it!

Well, I appreciate the kind words, but I really should have started walking weeks ago - if not on a daily basis, at the very least 4 days a week. And yes, I did lose this week, but I gained last week - so it evens out. In 4 weeks I've pretty much stayed around the same spot. I'm convinced that if I'd been walking all this time, I'd at least have dropped a few more pounds. My first fill worked for a few days, but now I don't feel much restriction. I mean, I feel restriction at meal time, but I get hungry again faster than I'd like. That is to be expected with my first fill though, so I'm not that bummed. It just means I need a lot more will power. I'm worried once I do start walking every day that I'll use that as an excuse to eat more - in which case, I still won't be losing any weight, LOL. Oh, this vicious cycle. I feel like a hamster on a wheel! I should get one of those for my signature instead of the smiley walking on the treadmill. :)

Though my dad did tell me last night that my face looks thinner, so that's Step 1!!!

OH, and thanks Mal!!!!

I look forward to meeting you too!

About the weight loss challenge. For awhile, I think since the Reunion Picnic, we have challenged ourselves to lose a specific amount of weight for a specific amount of time. This challenge will end the last day of the year. We weigh every Thursday and report here if we lost, gained, or remained the same. It kind of gives us some motivation!

I'm supposed to weigh today. I asked for special dispensation from Minidriver (she's the challenge's moderator) to be able to weigh on Sunday instead of Thursday due to my dependent edema issues!

You're welcome to join us!

I know how you're feeling about work! I started a new job 2 weeks ago, besides the fact that I absolutely hate my new job and that stresses me out, (it was totally mispresented to me in the interview), I also am working every day, which is new. I've not been working out, no time to swim my laps and I hate getting out of the habit! I am so angry at myself for accepting this stupid stupid job! And anger is one emotion which makes me want to eat! I don't do anger well! I was taught as a child that "nice girls don't get angry!"

Dee, sorry to hear about the job. Is there any recourse for it being misrepresented to you? Is there a min. time til you can apply for another position? Life is too hard to have a job you hate.

I have had dark beer a couple of times since surgery. I think my rationale was it appears to be less carbonated. Don't know, tho.

Well, winter moved into Oregon yesterday. Snow! Rare to get that in Portland, but truly rare in Dec. Temps are in teens this week. I know that is nothin' to you midwesterners, but for the temperate NW it is cold!!

So ladies, all you professional Bandsters out there - what do you do when you have a bad cold/flu and need medication? When you go to the doctor, they are inevitably going to give you pills for your ailment. How do you approach that? Is there a liquid-form to what they'll give you for a flu? I've had this flu for 3 weeks this Thursday, and this morning my throat is on fire. I can't remember in all my 26 years my throat ever hurting this much. Add to that the stuffy head, sinus headache, and constant sneezing - I'm miserable. I can hardly talk - my throat is that bad.

I've told myself I'll finally go to a doctor tomorrow if my throat still feels this bad, but I'm worried I'll pay all that money to see the doctor (my insurance isn't that great) only to find that there's nothing he can prescribe me that isn't in pill form. Any opinions ladies?

Maybe this has already been addressed, but why cant you take any pills? I take advil, excederine, when ever I need it without any issues. I also take a thyroid med every day. I don't crush or anything like that. The pills seem to dissolve pretty quickly and i havent ever had a problem with something getting stuck. Just my 2 cents.

Dr. K said pills were a No-No because you never want them to get stuck, and there's no telling just how small that opening is in your pouch. He said even my birth control should probably be crushed, just to be on the safe side. Did he not tell that to everyone else? :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
