Jamie, Good for you, I really admire you. After my surgery there was no way I was going to get on the computer let alone go for an evening out, and I thought I was doing fairly well. Don't think that I got out of the PJs for 2 days.

I had planned on going to Red Robin to meet you all, but being it was my daughters birthday she insisted that I go with them to dinner. Maybe next time. I would love to meet you all.

Mim

Hi ladies. I know I have been absent for awhile... but I was taking a mental break. Long story short, no restriction for me again. I was concerned I may have a small leak so I went in and told my Dr that. He withdrew all the saline and discovered I was only at 5cc's and not 7cc's.

He told me not to worry, he thinks that if I had a leak I wouldn't have maintained the 5cc's, that the pressure would have reduced it to less than 1cc.

Well I am very worried.

He filled me with 3cc's for a total of 8cc's now and I have a follow-up with him next week.

I still do not feel restriction. I feel like I could continue eating and eating, but I don't, I stop myself. I went out to dinner a few nights ago and ordered seafood enchiladas. The dinner came with rice, Beans, and 3 enchiladas. I ate about 1 and a half enchiladas, a spoonful of rice and most of the beans. I felt satisfied, but had NO sign's telling me to stop. I stopped because I knew I should... not because my band told me I had to.

If I was truly filled to 8cc's I don't think I would have been able to eat that much. ???

Lunch today was half of chicken salad sandwich on wheat with a half a snack bag of chips. I am saving the rest for dinner. Normally I would have eaten it all and then some. But again I feel like I am stopping myself... not the band stopping me. Maybe I just haven't pushed it so that is why I haven't gotten any signs???

I am feeling very lost! I am terrified to go in next week to see what else has leaked out.

I had gained all the way back up to 311 as of last week, but am back down to 304 as of today. So at least that is positive. Also I didn't have to use a seatbelt extender on the plane when I flew to WI last weekend... another goal to cross of my list. But honestly I am having a hard time feeling good about that with the possible leak hanging over my head.

Hey there Dorky One! It's so nice to hear from you! Re: your restriction . . . have you tried eating a solid Protein like chicken or salmon or something? Most of the time I don't feel any restriction until I try a bite of chicken or something and then it's like . . . oh. There it is. Softer stuff like enchiladas or chicken salad I feel like I could just eat and eat. Just a thought.

I hope you don't have a leak. don't they have that thick stuff they can put it now to kind of seal it if you do though?

I had Salmon for dinner on Friday night. The night after my fill. I usually have a hard time with it... it is rougher going down. Had NO problems. That is why I am worried.

Haven't heard of the sticky stuff. Will ask him about it next week. Honestly, I am so sick of being in the same 300-305 range weight wise I want to scream.

I am currently considering traveling in to have lapband with Dr. Kirshenbaum. It really sounds like he is a great Dr. Can any of you give me the process of what will happen from start to finish. I am just starting the process with talking with the Bariatric coordinator. I am going to schedule so I can set up my airfare, car and hotel. Where is the best/most affordable place to stay? I am really anxious to get the process started.

Thanks,

Jeremy, OKC

Congratz on starting the process Jeremy!!! Because I traveled from out of state for my banding with Dr K my process was easy. I called and set a date for my surgery and then had phone consults with the nutritionist and Dr.K. I paid 2 weeks before the surgery. I was only on the preop diet 10 days because I was under 50 BMI. Then I flew to Denver the day before for my preop appointment, had surgery the next day, and flew home the day after(which I don't recommend). All in all it was very easy. I hope this helped!! Welcome to our group!!

Hi Jeremy, and welcome to the best thread on lapbandtalk!

I think Marie answered most of your questions . . . as for the hotel issue - Dr. K. does surgery at two different locations, although it seems like recently most everyone has had it done at the surgical center at Parker Hospital. There is a Holiday Inn just a few minutes from the hospital that is really quite nice and very convenient. When you schedule your surgery, Natalie will send you a list of hotels and when you call you can ask for a medical discount. It was still $110 a night or so (if I recall) but the convenience was well worth it. The rooms have refrigerators (great for the meds you'll be taking!), microwaves, and VERY comfy beds. Quite a few of us have stayed there and really liked it.

Those of us from out of town do find that we sometimes don't feel quite as prepared as to what to expect as those who are local, so this is a GREAT place to hang out prior to your surgery and learn all the hints, tips, etc to make everything go smoothly. Several of the women on this thread are nurses and are incredibly helpful. So please ask away any time you need some help.

So it hasn't been quite 4 months, but here are some pics. I needed to see these because I don't really see the change everyday in the mirror. Both pictures look pretty bad, but they are the only ones I have so what am I gonna do?

BTW my hair hasn't been colored it is just the lighting.

Holy crap, Marie! I can see a huge difference! You look great! And it's obvious from your "after" that you naturally have an hourglass figure. You are going to have a va-va-voom figure in the not-too-distant future. WOOHOO!!!! Lapbands rock!!!

I sure hope I get to be va-va-voom!! This was actually taken 2 weeks AFTER surgery so I had lost about 10lbs before that.

Wow, I can't believe the difference. You are so pretty.

Hey, how are things with your dad? Do you have your CPAP yet?

My dad is doing great! He is starting radiation next week and will be done just before Thanksgiving. No CPAP for me. I was set up for another sleep study, but my insurance is going to make me pay my whole deductable for this year before they chip in, and I just don't have $1000 right now. Oh well. I will just keep praying that the more I lose the better I will sleep.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
