UEvrWndrY 60 Posted March 31, 2013 So I must be a little loony because for the last 13 days since I have been sleeved the only TV I have watched is either food Network or the Cooking Channel. At first I think it was to live vicariously through Guy Fieiri and the judges on Chopped, but now half of the nasty dive food makes me think how did I ever eat sh*t like that?! I've moved on to the stage of thinking, "Hrmmmm that is a nice Protein packed meal, I wonder how it would taste puréed..." Am I the only one obsessed with these channels? SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted April 1, 2013 I watched a Diners, drive thrus and dives marathon right after my surgery. Can you say "food porn"? I also was staying at my sisters house for my second week post op and jumped at the chance at cooking all the meals. I actually found that watching shows about food and cooking fills a void and it's comforting to know that I don't have to eat ALL the food in order to still enjoy food... I enjoyed cooking very much even though I didn't get so much as a taste! I'm a foodie and this surgery hasn't changed that. I still love to cook and I love everything about food... I'm just going to be eating less of it in the future and actually looking forward to when my desire for quantity won't overshadow my focus on QUALITY! 2 Leonafire and DrmBig4Evr reacted to this

southernsoul 773 Posted April 1, 2013 I love both of these channels & don't intend to change that! Both of them focus on making food the best it can be. I know that when I don't have space for much in my stomach, I want what does go in there to be awesome. I think my tolerance for crappy food will take a nosedive! gmanbat 5,889 Posted April 1, 2013 Ya, I used to watch them constantly. I skip over them now. Too much like an ex-con going back to look at his old cell in the joint.
iegal 460 Posted April 2, 2013 Wish I had a better attitude and resolve like gmanbat. Pinterest kills me. I have more recipes pinned than I could ever make. Great post gmanbat.
SpaceDust 585 Posted April 8, 2013 I'm another one who watches a fair number of food related shows, especially on the food Network and the Cooking Channel. Recently I've also started watching The Chew on ABC. For me, it's generally not food porn. It really is about getting ideas of fabulous flavors that I can take and make my own. I rarely follow recipes exactly (except for baking, which I don't do often), but sometimes I'm bored with the same old roasted chicken or slow cooker Beans and want to shake flavors and textures up a bit. I don't think that a healthy lifestyle means I can't still be a foodie. It just means that every small bite that I'll be able to eat must pack nutritional punch as well as flavor payoff, and I need to keep tabs of how each bite fits into the plan so I stay on track. Luckily, the food shows don't seem to be a trigger to eat for me. Maybe it's because of timing - I tend to watch at times where I've just eaten. Andi 78 Posted April 8, 2013 I watch food Network/Cooking Channel/Create (Cable PBS) for my cooking shows. After the sleeve I was alright to watch my Jacques Pepin just fine They're fun for some ideas, but at this point they don't make me hungry. After surgery I was watching Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel which I've always found interesting. My Mom thought I was using it to swear off food :b I enjoy British shows too. The only thing with the weight loss ones is that they like to use weight in "stones" and I'm always like... "so.. is that good?" lol
