I am 7 months post op from my sleeve and I just had my gallbladder out Friday morning. I still feel like I've been hit my a train! I try to not take my Percocet but I end up in to much pain. But the Percocet has torn my stomach all up, how long did it take everyone to feel better? I thought mine would be quick because I had the single incision in my belly button. I just hate being on narcotics and feeling sleepy all day!

Cut the perc in half and see if that doesn't help with the stomach issues, plus let you remain more alert. I was on pain meds for months prior to surgery, so I'd already learned that smaller doses a little more frequently worked better for me when they took my GB out. I only needed the pain meds for a couple of days after the GB surgery, and then nowhere near as often as pre-op. As for how long it takes to fully recover, the surgery pain was gone for me in a couple of days. I was released to full activity at two weeks out, but still had a small hitch in my left side for about a month if I stretched the wrong way. *I* thought it was a pulling stitch, but my doctor said that I was pushing too much on the exercise front. Either way, it was more annoying than painful, so I just worked around it. I'm almost 2 months post op and I'm just now finding all of the things that I can eat. For the first month to six weeks, any food with any fat in it sent me on an immediate bathroom trip. I ate about half a chicken finger last night (out with friends and starving) and it didn't mess me up, so maybe my tummy is finally calming down. Good luck...

I was in the hospital for nearly a week with mine. my doctor was able to do it laproscopically (5 incisions) even though my gallbladder was ruptured and infection was septic. He spent a long time in there scraping infection from my other organs etc.. I couldn't even get up and walk for the first two days and yes, Definitely felt like I got runover by a truck,. my first walk I thought all my organs were going to fall out of my abdomen. I had a morphine drip in the hospital. After I was discharged from the hospital I was another week on the couch at home. After the second week I was feeling much better.. but the first two weeks were horrible. I swore I'd never ever ever have another surgery again! My VSG surger felt like a weekend at the spa compared to what I went through with my gallbladder! Hopefully you will find your recovery easier.. My doc said mine was the worst he had ever seen and he said I was very close to death due to the extent of the gangrene.

It took me a few weeks before I wasn't in a lot of pain. For me, most pain killers are like taking tylenol. For some reason my body doesn't react well.

I had my gallbladder removed at same time I had sleeve. The first 2 days were horrible, had no pain from sleeve but GB pain was escrutiating, I kept telling myself, WTH did I do to myself! My doc prescribed Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen oral solution. It wasn't hard on my tummy and went down smoothly! Worked like a charm!

I'm mad at my self. I didn't even think to bring my liquid pain meds they gave me with my sleeve. I came to my parents to recover from my gallbladder surgery so all I have is Percocet and dilaudid they gave me in the er when I had an attack. I switched to Tylenol today because the stomach pain from the pills started to be worse then my gb pain. I still feel like I've been hit by a Mac truck because how I have to carry my self and sleep. I did not think this was going to be as bad as my sleeve surgery but it is.

Can someone go n pick up the med from your house to bring them to you?? If u didn't have any issues before while taking it, it will suit u well.

Unfortunately my apartment is an hour away from my parents. I'm doing ok with out the narcotics. I'm going to take one before bed, hopefully my stomach will heal a little in between taking them. I'm calling the doctor tomorrow to see what he thinks and how long I should feel this pain. I also finally get to take the bandage off and see the incision to make sure it looks ok.

Today seems to be a little better. I still don't have energy but the pain isn't as bad. Thank you to everyone. These boards have helped me so much. My family doesn't get it alot of the time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
