Goodbye Sugar and Hello Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I start my 2 week pre op diet tomorrow. This is going to be a real challenge for me as I am a sugar addict. Used to think I could live on sugar only and now I am going to have to do without it. I have never followed a diet without cheating a little or even a lot. This time it is going to be different because I have too much at stake. I have already had too many last suppers and am worried about the wgt I gained since seeing the surgeon. I am going to try to do exactly what my doctor and nut told me to do. I hear the first two days are the hardest. I am going to do whatever it takes to get through this pre op diet. I don't want a large liver or get canceled because I gained wgt. Any suggestions to get through the first few days? Reading all your posts has been so helpful already. Thanks for sharing!

There is no magic too it really, it's hard and the first two days are the hardest. But you just have to do it! Be strong and know you are doing it for very important medical reasons.

I say this because just a couple of days ago I was talking to a woman here that went into surgery and when she woke up the doctor told her they were not able to operate because her liver was still large! So they opened her up for nothing..

I felt so sad for her :( she was so upset.

You can do it. Be strong and know its for a successful surgery

I don't start my liquid diet til mid-April and I'm (kinda)dreading that more than the surgery itself!

As Laura said, you definitely don't want to do anything that will prevent them from doing the surgery. Try to find lots of things to keep you busy so you aren't thinking about eating. Go for a walk, make phone calls, hit the gym, read a book, clean the house, organize your closet... anything to occupy your mind.

Easier said than done, I'm sure. But remember that you can have things like shakes and broth and Jello -- review the list of things you ARE allowed to have on the liquid diet and try them all. The variety might make up for the absence of actual food to chew on. Maybe. :)

Good luck!!!

Need to stay busy. Don't sit around dwelling on the food you are not eating. If you cheat; you prolong the agony. We have all done this and you can too. Best of Life to you.
