ktmac26 6 Posted March 31, 2013 My surgery was March 19th, I've recently started introducing yogurt and other puréed food into my diet and it hurts to swallow sometimes. It's the same feeling as when you drink a soda too fast and it feels like it gets "stuck". Does this get better as recovery proceeds? Any suggestions? 1 wommers reacted to this
Grapplehawk 2 Posted March 31, 2013 I'm five months out. It gets better. You'll need to take smaller bites/ swallows for now. Give it time. Don't push it. You've got a new tiny stomach. Treat it like a baby. 1 DeeBrownBaker reacted to this

fyre_storm 1,412 Posted March 31, 2013 It may. Just go about it slower. You might still be sore!
newoutlookonlife 46 Posted March 31, 2013 I am three and a half months out and it does get better. Like the previous posters stated remember to take small bites. The hardest part for me was chewing really well and eating slowly but it will get better.
ktmac26 6 Posted March 31, 2013 Thanks. I've had to retrain my body to eat slower. I'm naturally a super faster eater and drinker. I'm trying. Thanks for the advice!
dixiejuju 15 Posted March 31, 2013 I am nearly 3 weeks post-op and it was KILLING me with swallowing. I found I was eating too fast and not chewing enough. I slowed myself down and don't have any issues now. When food starts to feel like it wants to get stuck in my chest I stop before it gets to that point because A. my sleeve is telling me it's had enough and B. it will come back up if you don't stop. I have experienced that once since surgery. Not pleasant at all.
GrammyViv 4 Posted March 31, 2013 Im 3 weeks out... Yes it does it better. Eat slow... Eat crushed ice. It makes everything work a lot better. Good luck
fyre_storm 1,412 Posted March 31, 2013 Unless you meant the other swallowing.... And noting makes that easier...... Just saying
pixigrl 33 Posted March 31, 2013 I literally bought a baby spoon from the Dollar Store. That helped immensly. No way to take huge bites with such a small spoon.

JP69 116 Posted March 31, 2013 Yes it does, just drink a little slower. I still forget sometimes and drink to fast and get that ten second stabbing pain.
