Thinking of food makes me nauseous

Recommended Posts

I hate to post this because I feel like such a whiner, but I will be 4 weeks post op on Monday and I get sick just thinking about eating anything. I don't vomit, but the thought of eating or drinking anything makes me nauseous. The first two weeks were hard, but I never felt this way. I've had such a hard time this past week at work. Does anyone else remember feeling like this and did it go away? I've been drinking Premier shakes for the past 6 weeks (plus Soups, broths, eggs). Maybe my body is tired of all that stuff? I'm currently forcing myself to eat 2 oz of tuna. I don't regret my sleeve not one bit, but I am a little tired of feeling like this. -32 pounds lost since 2/18 (surgery 3/4)

It doesn't make me sick...but I am never hungry or thirsty. I have craved nothing so far, luckily. I can't do the shakes...gross to me.

March 6 was my surgery date. I am getting more Protein from food now, but I am no where near 70 grams. I just can't drink or eat very much. I tried to do the shakes, but never could find a brand I could stomach...

Do you get all of your Water in? I was up until this past week. I'm struggling to now though. I've got to figure out why I'm feeling like this so that I can get over it. I ate oatmeal thinned with milk this morning. It was bland and I had no issues. It's flavored foods that seem to make me gag. I'm afraid to eat too much of the oatmeal though because of the carbs. :(

...no, I'm not getting in the fluids. I try, but about 48 oz is the most I can do. One week after my surgery I had to take 4 bags of iv due to dehydration.

You might want to enjoy it while it last because it is going to change. The further out you get from surgery everything goes back to normal including cravings.

I was sleeved on 2/20 and I still can't eat much. And I'm tired of my Gummy Multi Vitamins so I tried a pill today and I wanted to vomit. I eat very little cause the food feels stuck and again, I want to vomit. I try hard to drink my Protein Drinks but I just can't get them down. What worries me the most is not getting all of my Protein in.

Thinking of food makes you sick because your a Protein Drink. Protein drinks aren't supposed to eat human food. And plus you really should be in the fridge where your safe! Although if you don't you'll go bad.... And even join a gang!

Hi, I got sleeved march 11th and its so hard to eat something NOTHING sounds good. Makes me sick thinking about food also. But smells are good. Like ill think of a food or see a good food, but I won't go for it cause It makes me sick. You shouldn't be on Protein Shakes still. Don't you go through the stages? J/w the only think I've been "wanting" is meat! Steak-hamburger-ham etc.lol

You are not alone. I was sleeved on 2/25/13 and food is the last thing on my mind. I have to force myself to eat and I only take a few bites. I barely get 100-200 a day. I drink about 40 -50 oz Water a day, no Protein drinks because I swell, bloat and vomit after 2 oz and then I can't drink anything for the rest of the day. I am not ever hungry, thirsty yes but sipping is hard. I want to drink but I get that weird pain in my chest if I drink or swallow too hard.

My stomach was inflamed & the dr put me on Pepcid & mylanta daily. It has helped. Intake mylanta before I eat anything. I've only thrown up twice since I started the Pepcid.

Good luck.

Fyre: Haha! Changing picture now! :)

Thanks for the additional comments. I definitely don't feel alone now. I am still on the "soft food" stage that my surgeon wants me to drink Protein drinks to help increase my numbers. I move to the next phase in a couple of weeks. It can't get here fast enough! Although when it gets here, I wonder if I'll still feel nauseous and not want to eat. I guess I'll take advantage of it for now...I just hate feeling crummy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
