I have been looking at this website for about a month and decide to join. I don't have my Surgery scheduled yet, but I go to the seminar on January 9th. I didn't think I was going to be able to have the surgery because DH insurance wouldn't cover it what so ever. But I started a new job and my new insurance will cover it as long as I meet certain requirement. I found out what they were and the insurance company says it generally take 10-30days to get approved. I am excited but yet very nervous.

WOW How lucky for you! I hope you gt your insurance coverage without any problems. It will eventually come to light that they would save money, rather than let us develop more medical issues from the obesity. But they are slow learners I guess!!!

Welcome to LBT!! I am not in your area, but wanted to welcome you to the site. If you have any questions, use the search tab, if you think it is something others may have covered, or just ask---we are a pretty easy going bunch, and all of us were in your shoes at one time!

And good luck with the new job as well!!!

Kat

Hi Susan-

I too am from KC. Good Luck with your approval process. PM me if you want any info on who I went to etc. Making the decision to be banded was the hardest part for me ;) Hope everything goes very smoothly with your insurance/physician choices etc. Good Luck!

i'm new to LBT too! i have my first seminar on 12/11/06. my new insurance doesn't start up till 1/1/07, so i am trying to go to the seminar and follow up meeting before then-i know they want to take time for us to think about our decision to go ahead with this, but DUH---how long have we researched it before even calling them! i get frustrated thinking about having to wait for months to start my new journey, but i hear a lot about this 'patience' thing! good luck with your seminar meeting!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
