Preop Liquid Diet Victory!

Recommended Posts

I'm so very proud to say I'm on day 3 of the preop diet and I've stuck to it religiously. I haven't had 1 slip up. I even went as far as going to a crawfish boil at my best friend's house which was full of delicious foods and alcohol. I patiently drank my Protein Shakes and chicken broth. Sipped on Water all night and still had a blast. My friends have been so very supportive and loving. I will admit I did bust into tears briefly from feeling a little overwhelmed. But the important thing is I'm sticking with it! I've found strength and determination I didn't know were there. I have to admit I'm feeling a bit like Wonder Woman. Lol

Celebrate the victory!.... AND the first three or four days are the hardest, so after tomorrow you will be golden! You're doing a great job, and you are really proving to yourself that YOU really are in control of your food! Sticking with your preop like you are will benefit you in so many ways.. not just physically for your surgery, but also the mental victory as well!

How many Protein Shakes are you supposed to have in a day?

Thanks all! no more than 4 high protein/low sugar shakes and nothing but Clear Liquids. Low Sodium chicken broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, tea, coffee, skim milk, clear juices like cranberry, apple juice and grape juice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
