march sleevers the good and the bad

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 26th. Doing ok but seem to be having more pain at my big incision than most (still needing pain meds at 4 days post-op). Tolerated liquids well from the beginning; no problem there. Not very motivated to get my Protein in but my dr doesn't have a minimum. Looking forward to soft foods in a week and a half :) I only "officially" weigh on Mondays, so no loss to report only that I did sneak a peek on the 2nd post op day to make sure I was back below my pre-op weight :)

I was sleeved on the 19th and I get stronger everyday. I have no trouble with the Protein (premier protein). I was moved up to purees on the 29th however I'm in no rush because I have no desire to chew. My next weigh in won't be until Tuesday. Still soreness to my incision where my stomach was removed but tolerable. At night I will take the liquid vicodin to ensure a good nights rest. Overall I'm a work in progress as we all are. I feel good and confident that the March 2013 sleevers will continue on a safe and healthy journey...oh can't wait to get back to zumba....hopefully in another 2 weeks.

I could have posted this, lol minus am still on liquid until Monday I was sleeved 3/18.. Dying of boredom and restlessness and not sleeping well.. I go to dr on Tuesday hopefully he will give me ok for swimming that will help in tone, bored, and sleep.

Oh yes. Swimming is # 1 on my list of exercises along with zumba, tredmill, dance classes and the my nintendo wii.

I am actually on puree but find it difficult to blend certain foods. I get disgusted and go straight for the Gatorade G2 lol

I'm having trouble with Protein. I can not stomach my Protein Shake. Just tried to melt a Protein Bar. Added 3 spoon full of chabani greek yogurt and skim milk... ughh yuck not happening either.

I am with you. I had my surgery March 19th. I can't stomach the Protein Drinks. Just thinking about them gags me. I am having problems getting my protein and Water in due to nausea.

Hi all :) I Also was 3/27.

Surgery day was horrid. Ended up on 4 different nausea meds to stop the vomiting. Thursday was much better once the catheter was gone. I came home on Friday & thought I was going to die. The gas pains are still today keeping me out of the loop. My incisions don't hurt as much as they itch.

Today I was supposed to start full liquids, but I'm not feeling it. I tried some yogurt, but that's as adventurous as I'm going to get. Lol

I was sleeved in Mexicali, Mx on 3/18. I started full liquids yesterday. I got in 61g of Protein yesterday and made it up almost 700 calories yesterday. I'm still getting tired early and was a lil dizzy yesterday. Walking around the stores, mall, and the neighborhood regularly. I think I'm doing good with liquids. I sip and sip. So far I've avoided the scale. Weigh in with PCP on Monday. Clothes are already fitting better tho.

I was sleeved on March 19th. I have not experienced any pain or nausea. I am now on Puree and today my husband and I made baba ganoush, lamb with roasted eggplant, Cauliflower and creamed spinach. It felt so good to be back in the kitchen!

It is so awesome to be satisified with 1-2 ounces of food. I am not hungry but I know when my body needs nourishment.

Looking forward to my new life!

It seems like a lot of us are in the puréed/soft foods phase. I have a random question. Do you have to purée the tuna salad and the chicken salad? Thanks!

March 13th in Tijuana Mexico. I have been blessed with an extremely easy recovery thus far.. Just hoping to get past the DVT and leak "danger" window and then I will breathe easy. My sleeve has had almost no inflammation' date=' I didn't take any pain medicine since leaving the hospital and wasn't even given any narcotic pain medicine when I was there (I asked them not to give me any since narcotics make me feel yucky.. I'd rather have pain than take narcotics). I've been able to drink freely since the day after my surgery (drank 80 ounces of Fluid the very next day after surgery with no problems at all) No nausea after day two.. I did have some stomach spasms that lasted the first several days. For the first two days, they'd stop me in my tracks, but reduced in intensity over the next week until they went away completely. The diet is progressing amazingly. I enjoyed a scrambled egg for Breakfast this morning with 1/4 cup of curried lentils pureed with spinach and carrots and I added a few splashes of hot sauce. VERY yummy! Getting 70 grams of Protein a day.. about half from food and the other half from shakes and I'm able to get all my Water. Getting all my Vitamins in pill form so no need for yucky chewables. I'm back to work at my boyfriend's store and not even tempted by all the chips and pastries we sell there, I'm working full days on my feet, but not doing any lifting or extensive bending/streching yet. Incisions healing very well. I couldn't be more thrilled with my VSG experience so far![/quote']

What is the danger window?

My NUT said yes, it should be the consistancy of a dip.

What is the danger window?

5 weeks for leaks (though most likely in first two weeks)

3 months for DVT (though most likely in first three weeks)

Sleeved on the 6th. My surgery and recovery have been amazingly easy. Spent one night in the hospital. Never had nausea or vomiting. Getting over 80 grams of Protein a day and easily 80 oz of liquids. Was on liquids for 3 weeks so this is my 3rd day of soft foods. I am feeling like a million bucks! Never knew a quarter cup of cottage cheese or canned salmon could taste so good! Never hungry and have not had a bad experience with my sleeve yet. (knock on wood) My only complaint is really bad Constipation. Taking benefiber, stool softeners and MOM and it's still an issue!

Have you tried coffee? As soon as I had a cup of coffee, I became regular again!

I have been having Decaf and the last couple days having half cafe. Will try a cup of regular tomorrow but this has been rough. Not gonna lie. So lucky though that his been my only problem. Would do this again in a New York minute!

No regrets! :) :)

I was sleeved on March 20th. One night in the hospital and back at work on the 27th. I'm still in the full liquid stage and I'm having no problems getting them in. I'm getting about 50 grams of Protein in a day. I'm down 11 lbs since surgery and over 30 including pre op. I can't wait til I can start puréed foods. Looking forward to chewing again and I'm really curious about how my new sleeve will react to food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
