Help...3 weeks out...what portions should I be eating?

Recommended Posts

I know that I'm eating too fast but I'm sick of feeling sick when I eat. How much are/were you guys eating at this stage with puréed foods? I'm going back to work next week and can't feel like this every time I eat. Please help!

It's hard but measure out 1/4 cup and eat tiny bites at a time put your spoon/fork down for after each bite and chew until you cant chew anymore.. This was one of the hardest things for me to do..

My post op diet says that I should be eating 3-4 oz of food, but honestly I maybe can stomach about 2 oz before getting full. Listen to your stomach and as Laura said, just make sure you eat slowly and chew. I've definitely already learned my lesson on that one. It is the hardest thing for me to do as well.

I'm on purees My diet says up to 1/2 cup of food... one of the suggestions on my menu states one scrambled egg and 1/4 cup of puree. It then warns that you may only be able to eat a small portion of this, but the 1/2 cup is the maximum you should measure for yourself at mealtimes... I usually do almost the entire half cup with maybe a teaspoon left over. It's hard not to eat that last teaspoon since I'm not "full" but I stop when I feel satisfied. I know I'm eating a lot more than most at this point.

At week three it says to consume 1 to 6 ounces of food per meal and stop at the first sign of satisfaction but don't eat until fullness. I guess it makes sense since bodies are so different. I have had hardly any inflammation of my sleeve so I know I have a lot more room early on than most people, but it still makes me worry.. like what if it's NOT just lack of inflammation? The doctor did mention that I have a slightly longer than average stomach but that I shouldn't be concerned about restriction.

Anyway, as for the tiny bites, that is REALLY hard for me too. I have been using a baby spoon and setting a timer. Some people use an app on their phones to tell them when to take a bite but the timer has been working for me. What's been the hardest is I'm on purees.. it's really hard to chew something that's already puree!

Thank you guys so much! I have switched to precise measuring and things are so much better. I can't believe how little I need to eat...so strange. Wow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
