I wenth with Thomas Sonnastien at Riverside for mine. Thought he was an awesome doctor, fantatic bedside manor. I had a few complications after the surgery that werent necessarily related to the sleeve, so i had a pretty long recovery time (Gout, infections, etc)

I lost about 50 pounds from the first until the last day of april. after that i actually put a pound back on. not sure how that happened since i cant be taking in more than 500 calories a day. Oh well. Still have mild nausea and i can only eat a few bites at the most. How is your progress going? when was your surgery.

Thank God your doing better! That's an awesome weight loss - good for you!

My son is scheduled for next week and he's lost so far only 15 lbs, he should be at 20-25, but it's been very slow lose for him. He was a huge soda drinker, and has stopped pop & smoking now for 3 weeks, I'm very proud of his accomplishment & dedication so far. He is although very nervous of going under and having to stay on liquids, no chewing for a month or two. Did you also have some negative thoughts before surgery?

I appreciate any comments and your pre-op experiences you can share with us. Thanks!

Well, I was very confident before surgery that this was the right thing to do, and everything was great and didn't worry at all. Then they set the surgery date and everything changed for me mentally. Dealing with your own morality isn't a pleasant feeling. Fortunately dr sonnastine talked me off the ledge a little bit. Once I woke up from surgery, all was good again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
