Anyone else done this procedure with an autoimmune disease? How has it improved or worsened the symptoms?

For me, having the surgery brought my rheumatoid arthritis OUT of a three year remission. I'm back on my weekly methotrexate. It's mostly in the joints of my index fingers (where the finger meets the hand), which is bad because I work on a computer all day. That being said, I am still so thankful that I've had this surgery. I also have osteoarthritis in my knees and haven't had any issues with them once the weight start coming off. I'm praying that the methotrexate puts the RA back into remission again. It did before so...

Kids start school Monday so ill know more then. Ill have 20 four year olds!! We've been in meetings this week and I've been having panic attacks. Tired of dealing with them on my own so my dr put me on an anxiety medicine. I start it tonight. Sure hope it helps. I have 3 more years before I can retire.

I am a lover of Accupuncture for pain control. It has made such a difference in my life. It was my go to before the surgery to help me with the auto-immune conditions. I have not needed it since surgery so I am Blessed! But if I need it that will be where I am headed before the serious meds. Hope it helps!

For my first blood tests back today post 3 weeks from surgery. Good news: my thyroid dosage needs to be reduced, yay! Bad news? My CRP and Rheumatoid Factor are still way high, which means I need to get back on the RA drugs as soon as I can :(

I've never tried that. Sounds hokey but I may have to try it. I wonder if my ins will pay. How do I find one that's not a crazy?

The thing is, I'm not in any pain. I really wish I didn't have to go back on them. But with those blood results, I'm sure they will put me back on everything all over again. That's the depressing part. I think I am supposed to start them either this week or the next.

I guess if the MEDS help slow down the progression it's worth it. I hope you don't have many yucky side affects. I just started taking anxiety MEDS. Don't like the side affects. Plus I'm suppose to take it with food which means I eat something right before I get in bed.

I thought it was hokey too. But it has gotten me through the last five years with a ton less meds. It really works for me. I looked for a health center. It has a chiropractor, massage therapist and Accupuncture in the same practice. I have a female acupuncturist not that it matters but who happens to be white. I love her. Can't say enough good things. Best of luck!

I'm back!! surgery went really well, I'm home and doing really good. Slept for about 13 hours last night, but am so glad to be with my family.

First day out of surgery was tough, but I think it was mostly the morphine...once I stopped that silly stuff I have felt so much better.....sipping away on my fluids and working toward my first walk of the day.....

So happy to be on this side of the table!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
