Homemade jerky!

I hope this gains some views. I bought a dehydrator for the exact same reason and so far my "healthy" Jerky tastes like crap.

Trying to avoid as much of the salt as possible. Mostly garlic and onion powder. Seems if you don't salt the heck out of it in some way (soy sauce etc) it doesn't taste good.

I am going to see if it works with one of the store bought marinades that I always buy and use when grilling meats.< /p>

What kind of dehydrator? I want one but it needs to be inexpensive?

Try mrs dash seasonings

Also there's marinades from landry....

What cut of meat are you using for your Jerky? You want something that is inherently flavorful - this is one time when prime meat and cuts like the tenderloin are NOT optimal choices. Eye of round is our go-to because it's pretty lean.

Jerky won't keep well unless it's been cured in some way - that's part of what the salt does for you, so do refrigerate it if you cut the salt back significantly. I would try the low-sodium soy sauce idea, or a low-sodium teriyaki sauce. You can mix either of these down with other ingredients that are flavorful and non-sodium. Also, don't forget that the flavor doesn't HAVE to come entirely from the marinade - if you're using a dehydrator, you can sprinkle the strips that are laid out with seasonings before putting it in the dehydrator.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
