Was sleeved on the 21St and home today. It had gone much better than I expected. Pain control was too much, had to ask for something less strong so I could function. Been walking around, sipping and getting up often. My surgeon just did 1 incision and that helps too. Good luck to all.

Hello! I'm new here! I was sleeved on May 20th in South Jersey.

I had to stay and extra day in the hospital due to nausea. I was happy to get discharged and get out of that hospital bed. For me, the gas pain was way worse then I expected and worse then the actual surgical sites. I'm still burping and can feel gas pockets. I'm really looking forward to getting over that. I have a drain that will be removed on my first checkup appointment this Tuesday. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I am on a clear liquid diet currently as well. The doc should allow me to switch to full liquids at my appointment. I am surprised that I don't really feel hungry. I can feel that my stomach is empty and growling and I think about how I would like to eat, but don't feel that manic drive to need to eat like I've always had. Hallelujah!

Is anyone having any problems drinking? Every time I take a sip of anything I get bad air bubbles? Will this eventually end? I'm not gulping or chugging.

I've been trying to take little sips all day and I know that I'm not getting in all that I should, but I'm doing better every day. Sometimes I do get a gassy feeling when I take a drink...even if it's not a real big sip. I keep thinking it's related to the gas from the surgery.

As of last night, I started getting a weird metallic taste in my mouth. Today I noticed that my tongue has a grey-ish coating on it as well. It's making all my fluids taste horrible. I think it must be ketosis?

Metallic taste is normal, I had it as well. my doctor said that your taste buds may change after surgery. Everything tastes metallic, except, sugar- free Jello, muscle milk light chocolate, propel, and sugar free crystal light. Maybe for the best, as I ALWAYS loved eating, :(. Friday will be 2 weeks, Metallica taste, is still here, :(. Anyone else, have metallic taste, for how long, does it ever go away? Thanks do the responses :).

The metallic taste is fading for me. It's still there, but not as strong...or i'm just getting used to it. lol

How much Protein are you guys getting in at this point? My doc said sip Water all day, make a Protein shake and sip on that all day and then do my 2 ounce meals (full liquid stage) every 3 hours.

I was just working on one Protein Shake (made with skim milk) a day, but thinking I should be doing two to get my Protein levels closer to 60. Just curious as to what everyone else is doing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
