  1. 1. Knowing what you know now about weight loss surgery, would you do it again if you had the chance to make your decision again?

    • Yes, without a doubt! The surgery has been everything I’d hoped for.

    • Yes, probably. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m losing weight and feel that this was my best option.

    • Yes, but I would have chosen a different type of weight loss surgery.

    • No. I’ve had complications and my health has suffered and/or I haven’t been hitting my weight loss goals.

    • I haven’t had the surgery yet, but I’m looking at the results of this poll carefully to help me make my decision!

Knowing that I've lost over 80lbs in 5 months, I would absolutely have the surgery again.

Well....as I am probably going to be pummeled again for my answer.....it is no...would not have the surgery again....I would concentrate on watching my eating habits, more exercise and use self control. As I have made these statements in the past I am ready for the negative comments. Sorry if I offend some but, this is how I feel.

absolutely YES. the day before my surgery I took 13 pills that day. i had OFFICIALLY 7 different medical diagnoses.(my surgeon and i are pretty sure there were 2 more lurking but i never officially had then diagnosed). today i took ONE pill, as a preventative measure ONLY for reflux...

i have regained my health which was the most important thing to me in this journey.

I'm the "other". My answer is yes, the first one, however I would NOT use the same doctor who neglected me. No way.

Yes, I would have the surgery again , for the weight loss and for having control over food. I am 7 months out and no complications physically except hair loss but that is normal.

No, I would not have the surgery for the mental changes. I just wish I knew how much I was going to change mentally before hand. I was a strong woman before my surgery. I could face many stressful disruptions in my life and keep pressing forward. Today any stress makes me sick. I throw up, I cry, I shut down. I feel like I can't handle things like I normally would. I am forgetful and at times confused.

I thought under all this weight was a firecracker of a woman, but really I found I am uncovering a broken little girl. At times this is hard to deal with and I miss not having to deal with these emotions or feelings. The overwhelming feeling of not fitting in and being normal is stronger now then when I weighted 350.

Like any choice there are two sides. I understand all the yeses, I too would do it again. I also understand the when others say No.

This post spoke to me. For me, the rawness and vulnerability I feel without being able to turn to food for comfort is sometimes almost unbearable. Excess food was the way I coped and kept my life going. It's not in my arsenal today. I'm divorcing and I'm so fearful, but I found that I just can't and won't return to the food. As a matter of fact, giving up the food was what I needed to do before I had the strength to leave my husband. I go to OA and CODA now, and it helps me tremendously. I knew I'd have a monumental change in personality and confidence after giving up the food. Yes, I am more scared than ever. But going through these trials without excess food is slowly building my new courageous muscles. The LapBand will help me keep my appetite under control and the weight from returning if I am vigilant. Everything else is up to me. But I needed to make that change so badly. My life was like a walking death. I believe these trials will be behind me one day, and I will be able to live with joy in a healthy body. I refuse to accept less.

Knowing what you know now about weight loss surgery, would you do it again if you had the chance to make your decision again? Choose your option in the above poll, and then explain it in the discussion below!

Yes, Yes, & Yes. I've had two Lapbands & now in the Pre-Op stage of a Revision (Sleeve).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
