Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

  1. 1. Knowing what you know now about weight loss surgery, would you do it again if you had the chance to make your decision again?

    • Yes, without a doubt! The surgery has been everything I’d hoped for.

    • Yes, probably. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m losing weight and feel that this was my best option.

    • Yes, but I would have chosen a different type of weight loss surgery.

    • No. I’ve had complications and my health has suffered and/or I haven’t been hitting my weight loss goals.

    • I haven’t had the surgery yet, but I’m looking at the results of this poll carefully to help me make my decision!

I don't want this to get lost in the bull here

Sannah so I'm reposting!

Ohhh ... looks like a nerve was struck. Don't you hate it when the band-aid is pulled off?

Are you ladies going to sit here and seriously say there isn't man-bashing here at VST? Seriously? Ms. Antiband, I am not speaking directly at you, I am speaking in general. Seriously, ladies. Open you eyes. Do you need me to pull out the list of threads for you?

*EDIT*

You can start with this BS, not helpful, snide post right here:

Aww... But her husband did NOT sign up for any complications, anything that might take her away from her duties (even temporary) she was selfish,

Probably because he had to pick up some of the slack..

You talk about bull, Laura, you're standing in it.

Yup, sorry for hijacking thread. Looks like it is time for me to take another break from VST. Gotta do that every once in a while. It just gets so thick in here, sometimes.

Glad your taking a break PDX... I think you might of been reading a little to much into those comments, it really wasn't that serious.. I am sensing that you are sensitive to the perceived notion to "male bashing" here.

I am guilty in the sense that I have not noticed it..

A dysfunctional relationship is just that.... a dysfunctional "relationship". There is no difference between male or female... Both are culpable...

I have been in enough dysfunctional relationships with both to know that..

The woman in question is as much to blame for thinking the same way as her husband..

But that for her to figure out...

No band aids here, PDX,

On a side note you remind me a lot of my brother, I mean that as a compliment, I really loved him.

I would stand up for you as I have the up most respect for you, but like Laura, I have not perceived any male bashing going on. I generally do not tune into the negativity that surrounds us everyday. No headspace allowed! And why you ask? Because it is so tiring to play a game of he said/ she said interpersonal politics. Life is much more fulfilling when not letting negativity into it. Ignorance is bliss? Perhaps. There are always a*****e men and bitchy women, but that is just life. No need to read more out of my comment then that. You may perceive my comment as insensitive. It is not designed to be. Maybe just take a step back, take a few breaths and realize we are here to support one another. I do not think people in our WLS go around bashing. Why should they? More then likely, and you will be the first to agree, we fail to interpret posts correctly from time to time just because we are human. I am definitely guilty of this. I hope you don't leave and take a break because your feedback is always helpful ( except for the above lol). Do consider these words.

ABSOLUTELY YES :)...I'm almost 3 years out and I would do it again in a heart beat, I just wish I could have had it done 10 years sooner than I did.

Yes!!

In all my thinking that I could do it the conventional way, the sweat and tears...I could have had help. Still would have to do the same things, but would have progressed.

Yet, there is a time and season for everything and this is my time!!!

I had my surgery 4 weeks ago after 3 years of deciding to go forward with this surgery. This is major surgery and not meant to be taken lightly but have years of yo, yo dietingm wieght watchers, Jenny Craig, LA weight loss and a few others I made the decision to have this surgery.

I have had my ups and downs since surgery but slowly I am regaining energy and I am now starting a walking program for myself. I am just taking baby steps. I too have always used food for so many reasons and my social life always around food. I have passed up so many lucheons since my surgery but I don't care I need to do this for myself and if some of my friends don't understand than maybe I need to find new friends. I meet with a few friends at the park and we sit a talk, enjoy each other's company and we really listen to each of us has to say without worrying about food. I will go to the movies and enjoy the movie with a bottle of Water instead of a coke. I have joined a bookclub and look for discussion groups on a variety of subjects at local colleges. So there really is lots to do that do not involve food. I realized since my surgery there is no going back, changing my mind I need to move forward without the food being involved as the main attraction. Eating is so enjoyable with freinds and family but it cannot be the center of my world any longer those days are over, I get a little sad about it but when I get on the scale I am happy that I had this surgery.

No way, I'm almost 6 weeks post op, I'm weak, I'm sick, I'm fuzzy minded, I can't eat, I can barely walk up a flight of stairs without sitting down, I can't drink enough water...my stitches popped open and wont heal, I get stomach issues with 2 teaspoon bites....I'm a mess and now after a 30 pound loss, I'm at a stall...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
