What is average fill amount? Dunno?

Recommended Posts

Okay I have a question the first fill I had was 1cc the second 1.5 cc my question is what is the average unit of measure for fills? Is there one? Does this mean the lapband the pouch is filled with this amount or my stomach is now this amount? I have asked this before but I guess I just dont "get it" yet? Thanks!

The fill amount is what is injected into the bladder that is within the band. As this Fluid is injected into this bladder the opening from the upper pouch into the lower part of the stomach is made smaller.

I think it was Donali that described it best as squeezing a balloon in the middle. You hand is the band and as you squeeze tighter it makes the opening smaller between the top part of the balloon and the bottom part. The squeezing is the band being filled with Fluid.

All docs use a different fill amount. I got an initial fill of 1cc. I have heard other people getting different amounts. So it varies.

And since the thickness of the walls of everyone's stomach varies, due to body fat and genetics, the "tightness" of the band is very individual.

There are only three types of fill amount: just right, too little, and too much. And only YOU can decide which of those applies to your fill.

Knowing your fill level is only helpful as a point of reference for yourself - other than that, it's pretty meaningless.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
