Timeline of exercise

Recommended Posts

Hi gang! Sleeved on the 19th.

Would anyone have a good timeline of exercise that we can do on a week to week basis? For example Week one and two, just walking. I want to get back into all sorts of activities like kickboxing, yoga, horseback riding, weights, Zumba, stairmaster, spinning, cycling. Just not sure how and when to start incorporating these back into my routine. My two biggest fears, leaks and tearing sutures open. I also know that I don't want to wait 2-3 months before I can exercise again. That just seems like a really long time to wait. Any reasoable thoughts on what they did, or what advice their doctors gave them regarding exercise? I say reasonable because some are extreme in their thinking and precautions and I know I just won't follow that advice. Thanks so much!!

Are you asking when to exercise? My exercise is walking and I started doing it every day before and after surgery. I haven't really gotten into any other types of exercise yet, but search around here and I'm sure you find many people talking about when and what exercise they do. good luck with it.

I am 3 weeks post op and im doing treadmill, weight lifting, squats and other less aggressive exercises... im not doing anything with abs yet.. I started my first week with walking and going up and down the stairs.. I would add time to the walking and so forth week 2 I started lifting my 5 and 10 lbs dumbbells.. be really careful not too push yourself with the walking, I did after a week and half I was sweating like crazy and the next day I had extreme dehydration I had to stay in bed all day with only Water and gatorade.. I went back at it again when I felt ready... I would say do what you can and you feel comfortable with... if you feel pain stop.. :-D

For me and my doctors reqs: Day 1 to 4 weeks: Walking and light weights as tolerated.

4 weeks: Heavier weights as tolerated, light jogging as tolerated.

6 Weeks: Whatever I wanna do.

My Dr. cleared me to go ahead and open it up a little early with weights since that's my secondary goal right after losing weight. I gotta keep my strength to keep sponsorship and such with certain companies. It was all under the pretense that if I had absolutely any pain, I would back off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
