I just came back from my first appointment post surgery, 10days, still alittle sore at port site and still get tired by end of activity. Lost total 19 pounds since pre-liquid/preop period. Excited. Met a mother/daughter pair of lapbanders in office, they looked great and almost at their goal. I can't imagine myself that slim, but hope to view it one day.

Hello everyone! I am so happy to have found this site! It is so nice to BA able to talk to other "banded" people! I often feel like people who are not banded think I am nuts if I try to talk about my band issues!:) I hope to be talking to you guys soon!

Welcome Carol

it is a very exciting time... Most of the time I just love getting on those scales... It is so great to see it go down some each week...not so good when you plateau but cross that bridge when/if you come to it.

:D

Thanks Fabuless,

I know what you mean, plateauing, after my MD appt and excitement of losing 19#, I started to plateau , or so I thought, but woke up this morning to another exciting 2# loss. As long as I see progress, I know I can do this. I haven't started exercising yet, hope to start next week, and the lbs will probably start coming off faster. My MD stated that might happen, the plateauing, but to be patience and stick with it. So I encourage anyone who reaches a plateau to not give up.

Fabuless, you were banded in Australia, do you also live there?

I hope to visit there one day with my son, it appears to be a beautiful country.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
