No More Advil.....EVER!

Fiddleman' date=' have you been to a chiropractor? I took trial and error for me to find a good one but mine was a life-saver. One of the reasons I had VSG was that all of my excess weight exacerbates that fact that my hips are slightly uneven. This plus sitting too much during the day at a desk made my low back constantly inflamed. Beside his manipulation to help adjust my hip, my Chiro is into icing the back to reduce the inflation and a homeopathic ointment call Trameel for body aches. Any or all may be worth a try. Good luck.[/quote']

Thanks, I will also look into that as well.

When I retired I had been dealing with headaches for two years. Had been on Bextra until it was pulled by FDA . Then I had inflammation in knee, back, neck and feet. Still see a chiropractor when my hips get out of alignment. Was on Celebrex for several years, fish oil, and co q 10. The surgeon prescribed something else but I had to take it every 6 hours so don't. Can take Tylenol but don't take that either. Dropping 55 pounds has helped as I'm 5 ft 2 " . Have 35 more to go. Treated myself to deep tissue massage when I was down 50 pounds. Helps to break up the knots I form in my neck and shoulders . Good luck as we are all so different .

Surgeon gave the ok for NSAIDs at 3 month visit. Didn't specify an amount but had no specific issue so didn't ask. Now I seem to have done something to my shoulder. Saw pcp and recommended 800 mg ibuprofin 3 times a day. But also told me to increase my Prilosec from once a day to twice a day. So far so good on day 3 of it.

My surgeon & nut say no more nsaids. Nut also has me on anti inflammatory diet which restricts certain foods like white potatoes, oats, wheat and tomatoes (there are many many more), and to reduce inflammation, eating foods like rice, sweet potatoes, broccoli most fresh fruit coho salmon, flax seed ground out oil (good source of Omega 3's too). I am 5 months out and have not needed the advil (used daily prior too surgery) another thing you might try for arthritis is grape seed oil, nut was telling me about a spray that works. Not sure where to get it though.

I think you can buy grape seed oil at any store that sells Vitamins and minerals. I have seen it at GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe. Thanks for the list of anti inflammatory foods. I eat a lot of broccoli now, but do not eat rice or sweet potatoes because of them not being classified as good carbs. I try and take omegas whenever possible and will for sure get more per the recommendation of the post above for super Omega oil. I am just tired of popping OTC and script pills all the time to treat inflammatory pain, especially when they are not really helping and definitely not fixing anything.

I know the oil itself you can get in most grocery stores. The spray she told me about, you spray right on the affected area, say you are having issues with arthritic hands, you would spray directly on hands & would help fairly quickly, not sure where to get that. Might need to look into it though now that I have started c25k.

Check with a local compounding pharmacy, and see if they make a cream with NSAIDS. I have a script for a cream that has baclofen, gabapentin, cyclobenazaprine, flurbiprofen and prilocaine. Works great on my upper back/shoulder pain.

I just stumbled across the diclofenac patch while researching non oral NSAID alternatives. I have diclofenac in oral form, but it is known to be really hard on the stomach for anyone, sleeve or not. For this reason I am extremely cautious about taking it at all.

This is an adhesive patch that can be applied to an area for up to 12 hours. This sounds perfect as we can get the effects of an NSAID while avoiding any GI issues.

I am going to talk to my doctor about this because it is prescription only. I wonder why he did not tell me about this, especially after I expressed my concerns about taking a high does of IBUProfen orally.

Has any one used these and know their effectiveness? I am so excited as this might provide son real relief without risking the stomach.

Voltaren comes in a gel and a patch, both work beautifully! I have an auto immune disease that attacks my spine. Part of my spine is already fused and I can't hold my head up straight. I need nsaids to slow the progression of this disease, it's not just for pain relief. I do make sure I take mine WITH food, which means eat some, take the pills and eat some more so they are sandwiched between food

I haven't been able to use the Votaren gel either since my surgery! Maybe at 6 months but will see how my feet are doing?

I've not tried the patch. I use a cream that is made for me by a pharmacist. Works amazingly well. She can even add Ketamine to a cream-with zero systemic effect.

I've used the patch. It was not every effective for me, although I love diclofenac as a pill. I was using the Patches for knee pain, and I think it was just difficult to get good results over a bony prominence like that. In my experience the Patches are not helpful for most, which is probably why your MD did not mention it - the patches have been around for quite a few years now, so I'm sure s/he is aware of them. Sorry I can't give you a more positive answer!

Thanks for your feedback. Would you agree that the Diclofenac in pill form is going to be very hard on the stomach for any long term use? I have read that longer use then 10 days is even an issue. You can tell me I am blowing smoke. I would like to hear that because if Dicoflenac pill in 75 mg is safe for daily use, I would prefer to use it. I do not want to burn a hole in my stomach though. I am sure you get that. :)

I also am reading these Patches also cause stomach issues? How is this possible if you apply one, to say, the back area. It clearly stays intestinal or stomach bleeding as a possible side effect. Strange!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
