20 pounds down at 4 weeks ? Why am I so darn disappointed

Recommended Posts

I was down 20 pounds at 4 weeks, had a sight stall between weeks 3 and 4. I am too afraid to weigh myself ... In the old days this weight loss would have been a miracle ...... But after reading the threads, I see people who loose sooooo much more than me - like 30 - 35 pounds .... I am afraid to weigh, i am 5 weeks post op .... And don't want to get depressed .... My food is at least 60 gm Protein ... 800 cal

Help!

My physical therapist says the scale only shows one thing, how many pound you've lost. It doesn't take into consideration muscle mass built with excercise and so forth. I know it's easier said than done but don't give your scale all the power. Take a look at the whole picture. Have you been excercising? I think 5 lbs a week is a fabulous achievement.

I think you are right on track. I have only lost 18 pounds since being sleeved on 02/11/13. I started taking measurements a couple weeks ago (kept forgetting to buy measuring tape when I went shopping). This is helping because although I can see the difference in how my clothes fit, I want to see results. Also, starting on the 20th of this month, I started using the elliptical rather than the treadmill. I have never been able to do more than 10 minutes on it. I have been doing 30 minutes, 3 times a week. So, even though the scale is moving slowly, I seeing results in other places.

I lost about 24 pound in the first month. Since then, 1-2 pounds a week. I am totally happy with that. However, I'm equally happy with the changes in my clothes. I have had a few mornings this week where I have tried on 5 outfits - things that were fitting me last week looked huge on me this week. I am taking joy in every little (and big) indication of weight loss.

I'm also hoping that if I lose slower, my hair loss might not be as dramatic!

I'm hoping for less Hair loss too! LOL

Remember the more you have to lose, the easier it comes off in the beginning. Just think of less saggy skin when weight loss comes off slowly.

Congratulations, you are doing great. As hard as it is, try not to gauge your loss to others. There can be many factors as to why one person loses faster than another. 20 pounds in a month is no small fete. Stay on your plan and it will come off.

I had the same feelings at about the one month mark, I reached out on this forum and was happy to have several vets reaffirm what I knew to be true. I was doing what I needed to. they reminded me not to stress over what I considered a slow loss. Stalls will happen, unfortunately Do your best to ride them out and not let them get you down.

Enjoy your success!!

Maybe it's time to throw the scales out!? I'm apprehensive about tomorrow's weigh in too and it's actually making me cranky and anxious. I don't like these feelings so maybe it's time to stop weighing.

Just my two cents. But try to avoid using the the word "only" or anything synonymous when talking about your progress.

I really do believe a lot of this is mind over matter. In addition to retraining our brains to eat and how to view food we've got to work on our "fattitude problems".

You had surgery. Your body thinks you're starving it. From perhaps 3000+ calories a day to 800. Your body is designed to react accordingly. Do what you know you're supposed to do and don't try and fight nature. You'll only frustrate yourself.

Stay away from the scale for a couple of weeks and give your brain a break...

I see people who loose sooooo much more than me

Kapu

like others have said - you are doing great, really - would i lie to you??? ;)

common statement here.,,,,,

Never ever, ever compare yourself to others :o

people have been shot for less

don't compare for example the amount you have lost in a certain time period - how much you have lost

just be concerned about your own weight - don't listen or "look" at other peoples situations

take your measurements - and "temporarily" put that scale away

the more "strength" you have not to weigh yourself - the better!!!!!

take care

good luck

continued success

20 pounds in 4 weeks. That is nearly a pound a day. How is that not awesome?

My Drs office says they want us to lose 10 to 20 lbs a month. I lost 20 my 1st month and they were thrilled! Congratulations on your loss. Be thankful its loss and not gain. You are doing great!

Just thinking about this again, 20 pounds a month would mean that I would reach goal in 5 to 6 months. I wouldn't feel disappointed at all about that. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
