I dont have a card or an ID Bracelet that says i have had a VSG. Do you? Should I? Where did you get it?

What kind do you have and is it for emergencies only?

If you use a card at an eating establishment-- which ones are the most helpful?

I got one from my surgeon. It's not for emergencies but for eating out. I'm 2 days out so haven't had to use it yet, but I'd imagine anywhere would let you eat off the kids menu with it. I'm thinking it wouldn't be that helpful at most places though.... Kids meals are usually starchy junk!!!

I have a card to show at restaurant 5. Have used it a few times. Usually, I'm almost 5 months out so I usually look at the appetizers, chili, Soups, fish, or see if grilled shrimp is any place on the menu. I ask for things without butter, get a box right away. They usually think the food isn't good.. and wonder if there is a problem. I keep the card in a with my id and medical cards.

Huh. Never thought about being denied kids meals at restaurants. Interesting. I just assumed my husband would just do more of what he already does....eat what I can't/don't. :D

Never used. The card because kids meals are usually fried and junk. I eat an appetizer or Soup or eat off of my husbands plate.

I was given a Restaurant Card as well, but I don't eat anywhere that has kids meals. I've been ordering what I'm in the mood for, eat my teeny tiny portion and then bring the rest home for the next day, the kids, my hubby...

I ordered an alert Bracelet today online. I also put my info under ICE in my phone with my dr name and number, and my parents numbers. Along with my alert Bracelet I ordered a card I can put into my wallet with more detailed info incase my phone isn't around me. On my bracelet I put my name, surgery type and date, no blind NG tube, and my penicillin allergy.

I wear a medical alert flash drive Bracelet with all my meds on it, information about my meniere's disease in case I have a severe vertigo attack in public. They look pretty scary and I don't particularly want to be mistaken for being severely intoxicated or high. I'll just add information about the VSG procedure to that.

I asked my surgeon about it and he said maybe wear one for the first 6 months and that's it. I got the regular steel medical id Bracelet, but then decided that it was too obvious and didn't want to wear it. I did get an id bracelet with "VSG", my surgery date, and my starting weight as a reminder to myself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
