Cipro plan and being sleeved?

Recommended Posts

Second infection post sleeve. First one was a staph infection affecting upper back, neck and head. Very painful for 3-4 weeks late last year.

This second one is prostatitis ( inflammation of the prostate). The doctor put me on a 6 week Cipro plan starting yesterday. Waiting for labs to come back indicating "real" issue.

The biggest concern is that the bottle says to take 6 hours from last mineral and wait 2 hours before taking next mineral. The timing thing is what is killing me because I need to take this 2x a day. I take my minerals and Vitamins in the morning ( including iron) when I get up. calcium chews an hour or two after that and the Calcium chews again at lunch and dinner. I usually eat every 3 hours and I eat last Protein Shake or bar at about 9 pm. This snack usually is loaded with minerals by definition.

I am wondering if these no-take rules can be bent a little since we have smaller stomachs and process nutrients differently from non sleeved individual. My plan right now is to take at 3 pm and 7 pm, but I am still not outside of the no take range and I am taking the doses pretty close together. I hope I do not have to resort to taking the Cipro in the middle of the night.

Any thoughts? I know, not the most exciting topic, but...

3 & 7 is too close. Since its twice a day it should be at least 10-12 hrs apart.

Any idea how to manage 10 -12 hours apart and still abide by the no take around mineral rules and the fact I take minerals at 6am, 10am, 12pm and 6pm?

From what I just read its the Calcium that needs to be avoided. I would check with your PCP but it seems like the Iron would be OK, but anything with calcium needs to be taken, like you said, 6 hours before of 2 hours after. The calcium can prevent the Cipro from being absorbed. So 6am-Cipro and any non calcium minerals, 10- calcium minerals, 1pm- calcium minerals, 7-8pm- Cipro and non calcium minerals. You may take in less calcium than preferred for the 6 weeks, but the Cipro would more than likely take preference for this time.

---I lied--- I'd still ask you PCP.

Avoid: Reduced drug absorption/bioavailability—Avoid these supplements when taking this medication since the supplement may decrease the absorption and/or activity of the medication in the body.

Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Zinc (if taken at the same time)

Dandelion*

Fennel

Yogurt

I think I've read that you get up at 5am? Is that right? If so, take your Cipro as soon as you get up. Eat something with it if it upsets your stomach. Then take your Vitamins at 7am - that's just an hour later. Move up your evening vitamins to mid afternoon and take your Cipro before bed. Might have to change that evening Protein Shake for a while. The Cipro needs to be priority here so you don't develop bigger problems. You need to take it about 10-12 hours apart so it can be effective. Just an idea.

How bout this:

5am Cipro with snack if needed (banana maybe?)

7am Vitamins and minerals breakfast/shake

9am Calcium

Noon (lunch time) calcium

3pm calcium and Protein shake

6pm dinner

Bedtime Cipro

It's important to take the Cipro separate from Vitamins so it can be fully effective.

Thanks for the plan. It looks good. I hate having to give up my bedtime snack though, but it does have vitamins and minerals as it is either a shake or a Protein Bar. I will try out your suggested plan this next week.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
