New here! Any low BMIers?

Recommended Posts

Every now and again the Low BMIers come out of the closet and it's great to see so many of us still making this decision for our long-term health' date=' no matter what other people think. I, like so many of you, have lost and gained the same 50 lbs so many times, it might as well be 150 lbs for how it has plagued me. I also have auto immune stuff going on now, my hips and joints ache all the time, and I just can't move around to keep up with my young kids and my job (I'm a Kindergarten teacher). My surgery is July8th and I can't wait! I've been trying to eat better in preparation and have lost 2 lbs so my BMI is now 31, but it can swing up to 33 in a heartbeat! It's really reassuring to see the great results other lower BMIers are having... lead on![/quote']

My surgery date was feb 28th so Tomorrow i will be 7 weeks out. My BMI was 33 and so far I have lost a total of 29 lbs. I feel like it is coming off so slow and even had a 3 week stall. But still I have no regrets.

I had a BMI of 33. After 10 days of liquid diet, I was at BMI of 30.3 when I went to the hospital. I am overall very healthy, but being post-menopausal, I knew it would be very hard to lose any other way, so I decided to have WLS. I am 3 days now and doing well. I had my surgery in Houston with Dr Sherman Yu and he was wonderful I was self- pay.

The day of my surgery I went in with a BMI of 30.9, a little lower than it had been in the previous weeks. I'm looking forward to being "normal" weight after about 20 years. I'm on my way.

That's great! When did you have surgery again? Are you finding the weight is coming off slowly, or are you happy with your progress? Have you begin exercising?

Hi Amy, my name is Alice. I am also in beginning stages of this. I went a seminar about 6 years ago and the sleeve wasn't available then---I could not see doing the other choices-- so I continued on my lifelong journey of TRYING. I have maintained at about 230 lbs for about 10 years-- so do not know where I would be had I not TRIED. HOWEVER, I am 64 and the sleeve has been presented to me by so many-- that I feel this tool is what I need. I did lose 100 lbs when I was about 30 -- I know I can do it and hope you can too. My BMi is 39.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
