What if I get a blood clot how will I know or will I before its to late? Anyone else have these thoughts? I haven't changed my mind its either this and get on right track to healthier me or start picking out how I want to be buried... And leaving my children motherless is not on my to do list!!

I have a ton of "what ifs" running through my head and they will probably continue right up until they wheel me into the operating room. What gets me through these moments is the realization that I'm doing the best thing for my health. I'm just taking one day at a time and trusting Lord God will see me through. I wish you the best.

What if you stay the way you are, and drop dead from a heart attack, or get diabetes and they cut your feet off or you go blind, or you have a stroke? Relax, if you follow you Drs. plan, take it one day at a time, keep the expectations low and patience high. You'll be fine.

I had those same thoughts before surgery, and I continue to have some of them (what if I'm not successful?) after surgery. I think it's normal. We all have to know our risk tolerance. Once you decide that, you'll be comfortable with your decision.

What If?

vila2924

hi there

glad you haven't changed your mind about having WLS :)

having the surgery is the best thing you could do for yourself (everyones favorite, but true cliche')

don't 2nd guess yourself now :(

be happy with your initial wise decision to be sleeved :)

being scared, concerned, nervous - happens at one time or another to most/all of us

but the bottom line is you have tried to loose this ball and chain around your neck for years

"they" both keep coming back to haunt you, tighter and tighter

"we" people just can't keep this blasted weight off - we have all tried and tried and tried some more, only to regain +

if you/us continue with bad eating habits, gaining more and more weight, developing or worsening your co-morbities - what do you and yours do then?????

we can't let the fear of the unknown rule our lives :(

unknown???

how will i react to WLS - how will my recovery go???

will i have any complications?????

gas, vomitting???

will i have problems PO eating, drinking et al?????

if you continue your life as you are doing now ???? then what????

what if you cross the street tomorrow and get hit by a bus??? :o

don't mean to scare you!!!!

alittle pre-op nerves never hurt anyone - but gotta settle down about the "what ifffffffs"

you made such a wise decision !!!

when your kids understand "later" what their mom did to help herself and them - they will be soooo proud of their "mommy"!!!! :)

if you really need to calm your nerves ...

have a tall cool drink

of Water silly!!!!

good luck

best wishes

take care

I am my surgery in two weeks. Not nervous but hate waking up from surgery. Any tips?

My advice? Don't wake up fighting.... When I first "remember" waking up I heard the anesthesiologist telling me if you keep fighting we are going to have to call the psych person!?! what the what??? I guess I don't like waking up from surgery either :P

Nervous as heck and praying I made the right decision (going to Mexico part especially. Ooo n I'm frustrated too because I have gained weight on pre-op diet!! I'm mean really who does that!!!

All I remember about waking up was groaning "pain" and saying it one more time before being sent to lalaland. When I was really awake, I remember being wheeled to my room and getting settled. It wasn't too bad. I asked if i could put on some underwear, which I guess was really funny to my parents. Apparently I was high as a kite. I, however, remember being perfectly rational :P

In other words, don't worry about it. You'll be pretty out of it.

Ohhhh, this is sooo me! I am petrified about having this surgery. I've had a hysterectomy, then 2 months later went back to have my ovaries removed, and had ankle surgery and had to be off for a few weeks. I never ever thought anything about blood clots! Are the risk the same of getting blood clots with those surgeries as this one? I've sure thought about not having it, but I know I will gain, and lose, and gain more if I don't have it. Can someone ease my nerves?! I'm scheduled for April 18.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
