i have had my lap band on for 6 years now with very little problems and have lost 25 kgs which is great. I do stress over my band though and everytime i feel different i say its my band its slipped(my fear) but other than that it has been a success i have a lovely dr in australia (where im from ) and have always been able to talk to them about anything.I have moved and now am to far away to have my dr and that has been hard now im glad i have found this as its somewhere i can come and ask different things that worry me about the band and share the positive things that go with being banded

hi dominicana first i hope you are successful in getting your banding done. I have no regrets and and have had no problems for 6 years except when they first put it in i rejected the port but that could have just been me i was the first one he had had that had done that so soon. i have lost a healthy amount of weight and look and feel great but im not a sixe 12 as i didnt what to get too small and struggle to keep it off even my dr was ok with my decision as long as i was happy. I have just had all my saline out as i had to have a gall bladder op and he wanted me to have a rest. and i still havent gained any weight in the 6 months break i have had. which is great for me it means i am eating a much better diet which is really positive to know after 6 years. trust me you wont regret it it doesnt hurt you just feel like you have been kicked by a mule. i just now hope it last another 6 years with no complications

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
