Do u think ill be up for it ... Or most likely not!? Plus it's in June and I live in Texas soooo summers are usually pretty hot... itstheamarie 77 Posted March 27, 2013 Please confirm with your surgeon, but any activity beyond walking is usually restricted 4-6+ weeks post op. I was barely able to walk on the treadmill at 2.0 MPH for 20 min at 3 weeks, whereas I used to jog at 5 MPH before surgery. It takes a while to start feeling normal again, and it's not worth risking any type of injury or complications. I'm in Dallas and totally understand the summers :-) Congrats and good luck with your surgery!
*Dean* 1,594 Posted March 27, 2013 What's your fitness like now? Can you do a 5k on your ear now? Obviously check with your surgeon, but if your really fit now maybe jogging a 5k wouldn't be too onerous. I wouldn't have been ready to run then. Have a look at this thread - http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/68756-started-couch-to-5k-today-anyone-keen/ It's a bunch of people getting into running pre and post op. MLCT 9 Posted March 27, 2013 I would say 3 weeks out...85% chance you won't be up for it. You won't have the energy with what you'll be able to eat at that point. You will only be able to walk at most 30 minutes a day...
SleeveNZ 219 Posted March 27, 2013 I did a 6km womens event fun run which I had booked and paid for months before my surgery was scheduled, 2 weeks post op and felt fine - even afterwards. All good if it doesnt feel right stop and walk it.
Pepper Paul 143 Posted March 28, 2013 I am two weeks and two days post-op and am walking 3-4 miles per day. I feel like I could easily start jogging except that I was told to wait 4 weeks to start exercising again and I don't want to chance it. So there is definitely a possibility that you will feel up to it by three weeks. Whether you should or not, that's a personal decision. Good luck! 2 danyelleb and Fiddleman reacted to this
mark! 449 Posted March 28, 2013 Everyone is different. I was able to start jogging at 4 weeks, and I stretched it and lightly LIGHTLY jogged at 3 weeks. If you're trying to be competitive in the 5k at 3 weeks, you may want to bow out and wait. If you're just doing it to be active and have a good time, you can walk/jog it no problem. I would check with the Dr. (Whom I assume will tell you hell no) but only you know how you feel. I had a slight discomfort when I jogged around the large incision area so I stopped immediately.
