Yes the pain is normal. It takes about 5 days total for the massive pain to subside. I just took my pain meds and slept through the worst days. Just know that the next 2 weeks will go by quickly and you will have been through the worst of it.

If you are feeling like you regret it, try browsing the before and after pics. That always perked me right up when I was down. I did that every day before surgery and for at least two months afterward.

Now just the fact that I am two sizes smaller than when I started is encouragement enough to believe this is the best thing I have ever done!

Keep your chin up the hardest part will be over soon.

Melanie,

A am so very sorry that you are in such pain sweetie! If your Dr gave you meds, please take them as needed.

I did not have this type pain. I was released from the hospital the next morning and went shopping the same afternoon. Although my Dr gave me pain medication, I never needed it....NOT ONCE! He did say that walking would be beneficial....and I shopped till I dropped...with no pain! The next day I boarded a plane and flew 2000 miles back to Dallas, got in my SUV and drove another 200 miles home to Oklahoma. Not gonna lie to you...I was tired, but not in pain.

Use your good judgement.....that's what my Doctor said.....he even gave me his cell phone number just in case...how great is that? lol

Thinking of you and please let me know how you are doing!

Hugs from Oklahoma,

Dreamer

Hi

I had my lapband on the 16th of November. I have had lots of pain but I am now out 2 weeks and feeling so much better other then I have a really bad cold. I have had 3 c-sections and I thought this surgery would be easier but it has not. So you will feel hopefully feel pretty good by 2 weeks out and maybe just have a little port pain at least that is my only real pain now. Goodluck it will get better. Jenny

I think you need to call your Dr and tell him how your feeling and what your insisions look and feel like.

Feel better and walk and take your pain meds! But call the office!

Hi, I had mine the same day as you. I am not in excruciating pain, but it is there. Only one incision to the left over a rib has a nasty bruise around it, and I am dark skinned. In any event pain is very subjective and we all have different tolerance levels. So my advice is take your pain meds, good hot showers, and walk, walk, walk. I left the clinic on Tuesday, the day after, and walked 2.5 miles. Read my story in the general area is is hilarious. Feel better.

Try refrigerating it if you have trouble taking it. I also had hot incisions for the first week as well as bruising. The first week is the toughest, without question. Rest and heal and make sure you get enough Protein.

Best of luck to you; you're on the road

I'm also an 11/27 bandit! I would say it took about 3 days for me to realize that I haven't made a mistake by being banded and that day by day it gets better and better....in fact, I worked an 8 hour day today (only one week post op) and while tired - exhilirated!!

Good luck

while I'm waiting for insurance approval and surgery date and cannot truly appreciate what you're going through, it sounds like you need to contact your surgeon. In the "mean time" remember all the reasons you decided to take this step and know that it can only get better. Make sure you attend your support group meetings, I find them encouraging and remember Protein, lots and lots of Protein and Water.

I'll be calling on you when I become a bandit. :)

Wow, Dreamer! Imagine going shopping the next day - betcha' that's not the norm. You are a champ!

I was overnighter - mind you, I was on yummy morphine so wouldn't have been able to leave even if I wanted to, and then Ty 3's when I got home.

Melanie, if you are in that much pain (I defintely was too, but now feel GREAT!) get Tylenol 3's from your Doc. They not only help the pain, but they knock you out too.

Don't worry, it gets waaaayyyyy better.:)

Kat.

The first three days were the worst for me and it took about a week to start feeling better. Each day gets a little better, you just have to make it through the tough early days. Let us know how you're doing!

HI, I am so sorry you are having such pain. It seems everyone's tolerance and recovery time is different. Sometimes, if you have had any previous surgeries, it is an indicator of how you will do with this one. I know that anesthia always knocks me for a loop and it takes me a couple of weeks before I really get to feeling better. It was the same with my lapband surgery. I wasn't in extreme pain, I mostly hurt when I would go from sitting to standing or standing to sitting. As long as I wasn't moving, I was ok. It took me about a full two weeks before I really got to feeling better.

Hopefully you will be feeling better soon. Take care of you and let your family wait on you and handle things so you can rest, heal and get better!

I really only had pain in my port incision when standing up, sitting down, or walking unsupported. Or the time 2 days post-op when we were driving to visit my parents and DH took a set of train tracks a little fast!

When I was in a resting state I had no pain unless I had to cough or sneeze or something.

So to me the amount of pain you're feeling is not normal, though to others it sounds like it is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
