Wow, folks....take a breath!! This is a support forum.... the goal is to support each other. If you don't feel that you can lend support to a particular posting, just read it and move on. Each of us has experienced enough negativity and judgement in our lives. Let's not add to it here.

Yea, I heard it all too. Your not that big, or your proportioned( meaning your fat all over). I had verticals sleeve at 64 so I can dance at my grand children's weddings!

I think you are right in a sense.. But looking back at this abomination of a thread, it was started to elicited a certain response, as was confirmed by the op... I fell for it (as did others) and the op got the attention she needed, I hope she feels like she got whatever she needed off her chest and is feeling better about this internal struggle she's having at making her decision.

I think a lot of us (no matter what our bmi's were) heard this same thing pre op from lots of people.

This morning I ran into a friend who had said that same thing to me, the first thing she said "wow you look great, you look so much healthier and glowing"

Go figure I guess I was big enough after all :P

I think your insurance companies over there might have given you guys this 'am I worthy of VSG' mindset. They seem to want to make you jump so many hurdles and have created categories from what I can tell 'over 40 BMI' or 'over 35 with bad enough co morbidity's' blah

I started with a BMI of 41. I assume my struggles over time have been similar or the same as someone with a BMI of 55 or someone with a BMI of 35. The scale of some of the problems might be different, but still the same.

Yeah, if you find a surgeon that will do it, on your health insurance claim form it doesn't even ask about your weight or any health questions really. If a surgeon says you need it, they cover it.

To me 'bean counters' should be the last ones deciding if people should have surgery!

Nice! I guess here for some yes they have hoops like the six month thing., not with my insurance though I was lucky I just made an appointment with a surgeon and was approved (40 bmi)

But I agree our health care (insurance companies) suck big fat donkey...

I'm not sure if the rules are at fault though for making someone feel that their fat is different from my fat... Fat is fat is fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
