Day 2 is the WORST! The PA at my surgeon's office told us to expect that...she literally said you will feel absolutely terrible the day after (in my case, I could have Water and a popsicle after the swallow test--but I was so dehydrated until then--kept slathering on chapstick and wiping my face with disposable facial wipes). In my case, the PA was correct. She advised walking as much as possible, which did help.

Congratulations on your sleeve. I hope that you heal quickly! Tomorrow will definitely be better.

PS--do you have an incentive spirometer or pickle to do breathing exercises? Definitely use that 10x/hour (not all at once--as my surgeon says, "that's hyperventilating"). It definitely will help. The breathing issues were one of my major discomforts after surgery. Felt like I couldn't take a full breath, and made it harder to walk, but I forced myself. The respiratory therapist and nurse told me to concentrate on taking deep breaths from my abdomen even when not using the breathing devices. Also, make sure your bed isn't reclined too much when you are in bed, bc that can affect your breathing too.

Day 2 is definately a "get through it" day. use the meter to practice breathing, walk, get your ice in. It gets better.

But yay you! Your on the loosing side now! :P

Hello Patlipriya, had my sleeve performed yesterday as well. I am also having slight issues with swallowing for example hello. It makes me super nauseous! I have no problem taking small sips of Water. I'm having lots of stomach spasms, but I was told they will pass with time and healing. I'm getting discharged today. When are you getting discharged?

Yes I got Discharged today..... I'm on clear liquid... I'm troubled - I'm not sure how much Water I should drink... my urine in a few short hours after coming home from hospital has turned dark orange (dehydration).... I can only sip a little at a time, so I'm worried... anyone else with these concerns???? I really don't feel like drinking much...

I forced myself not to give into myself for anything. I pushed myself. I didn't have much vacation time so I was sleeved on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. So I walked as much as I could and sipped Water. I just wouldn't let my mind give in to anything. But just hang in there and do what's best for you :0)

Try ice chips. They just melt in your mouth and they are so refreshing. That worked very well for me for the first couple of days.

Try different temperatures of water--warm drinks may go down more easily than cold ones. or even room temp Water. Try for at least 40 oz of water but get more if you can--68 ounces or more. You might want to try little disposable shot glasses and drink 1 ounce as frequently as you can. I also never really liked G2 or Propel before my surgery but came to like them during Clear Liquids. Sometimes better if you dilute them. Does your doctor want you to get in Protein, too, like Isopure clear?

Definitely recommend walking. It does make a difference. If you use a little medicine cup and make sure you drink Water from it at least 6-8 times an hour you will be doing great! You will know when you don't need the cup anymore. It helps keep you on track during the first week. It helped me for sure! SF Popsicles are awesome too. I love the tropical flavored ones. I still enjoy them. Congratulations!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
