weekly scale challenge

Recommended Posts

Darcy that's why I'm not going to weigh today. I had several things with salt, ham, Beans, etc and I know I'm holding Fluid, which is probably what you're doing. Don't get discouraged and re-evaluate what you've eaten the last few days, a lot of salt? Don't be too hard on yourself, those lbs will prob be gone in a couple of days.

I don't have the courage to get on the scale today. My monthly weigh-in is the 5th, and this will be my first gain. I hate the holidays - everyone ends up fat, sick and broke. I've picked up all my bad addictions... now how will I break them?

Ok just weighed myself and I lost the 5 lbs I gained and managed to lose 2 lbs more on top of that. WHOO HOO!! Down to 239 now. I am so thrilled.

By the way, I leave today for almost two weeks. I am heading to Tucson, AZ for an 11 day sabbatical. I will have my laptop but probably won't be online much.

Keep up the work ladies it does pay off.

well girls and guys, can you imagine how we would have all done without the band? in the journey of weight loss, we have mountains and valleys.... so as long as we all keep moving ahead, we reach our end goal..... hey, boy, that sounded so poetic....hahaha,,, only kidding.... how many holidays have you been able to get through with saying i gained a half pound or 3 pounds.... usually it could be 8 or 10.... so don't keep getting upset... just try to get back on track..... i look at it as a bonus that i didn't move up a dress size... best wishes to all.....

Ro,

Thanks for this post cause I realize even though I had my second week with a gain. This week 2 pounds I realize after reading your post I too did not change in my dress size. Phew!!!!!

All right, I'm changing my signature to reflect the 3 pounds I can't get rid of yet. I guess 172 was a temporary dip, because I have been hanging around 175 for a month now. This is my weight from 20 YEARS!! ago that I've only touched on once, very briefly, since then. My body likes this comfy place. My head is telling me I am very fat again. :rolleyes But I still look good in my stretchy, relaxed fit size 12 jeans! :D

Thanks, Michelle, for the encouragement. It is a new year to bring out a new resolve. Let's all work on that dress size -- you, too, Greg. :D

I am so glad you are back on top, Penni. Oh, by the way, that turtle recipe you shared was WAY too good. Thanks bunches! :P Have a nice rest. :)

Great message, Ro. Those of us whose weight loss slowed down over the holidays, came skidding to a halt, or went into reverse are still doing a lot better than we would have without the band. My average holiday weight gain in the last 15 years was about 8 lbs. So I figure I can throw that on top of the measly 2.5 lbs. I've lost in the past six weeks and claim that I've lost 10.5.

Greg, fear not -- I'm sure lots of us have girdles you can borrow if you go up a dress size.

I'm not really worried about the gain, I'm petrified about the bad habits I picked up. I came in today thinking it was a new year, with the holidays behind us. But someone brought their party leftovers (an entire spiral ham, a huge deli platter and 5 pounds of chocolates.) I had no intention of touching anything, but I downed about 20 pieces of the candy in a chocolate-induced hypnotic state. I was fine before the holidays, but partaking in the goodies started the destruction ball swinging again. I hope after the PMS stage and after this gloomy rain is done, I can get back on track. For the guys, try going through PMS and rain while ignorning five pounds of chocolate. I dare you.

Sounds like a new PMS challenge! I don't know about the guys, but I'd sure fail big time.

The company I work for does a lot of business in Latin America, where the holiday season runs through Jan. 6 (Epiphany, or Three Kings Day). I officially declare that the holiday indulgence period can, at your option, last until then.

Zoe I'll send you my home address in a PM and send them COD lol.

Glad to help with that Jan. 6 business! Seriously, people across the country are bringing leftovers to their offices this week, or munching on the tins of mass-produced goodies businesses exchange over the holidays, so I think we could use a little moratorium for a few days.

Greg, be careful what you ask for. I've got a long-leg black-lace number with a tummy control panel that would look lovely on you.

And I still have those red lace fingerless gloves that would go lovely with black.

Zoe, that is such a good point. Maybe if we all started our new year's resolutions in the 2nd week, we'd be more sucessful. I bet you could do a national survey and reveal the truth about trying to start a fresh year with all the lingering holiday stuff still lingering. By Friday it will all be stale, so next week sounds much better to me.

By the way, I donated ALL my baking supplies to my (skinny) teenage neighbor. Her gramma got her cookie cook books for Christmas, so I have just completed the baking portion of my life. Next module, please.

LOL... OMIGOD... the visual on the balck lace number actually made me smile... well... it actually caused a bit of a belly laugh as well! I think we all need a pic of Greg in Zoe's black lace number to lift our spirits.... whatcha think ladies?????

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
