Just got approved this week...took about 10 biz days. Had a little confusion in requirements BCBSIL needed, but got it worked out within 2 days. Surgery date coming soon!

Depending on your plan that your employer chose, I had no requirements, at 100% cover with no deductible. Doc office submitted paperwork on Wednesday afternoon, they called Friday and had it approved!

Good luck!

ok, thanks. Can anyone tell me who they chose in Illinois? Any referrals?

I talked with Herrin Hospital and they said they are apart of the PP0 plan, I believe Blue Distinctions are BCBS elite hospitals who have done surgery for a while.

Does anyone know the difference (cost wise) in going to a Blue Distinction Center and not?

When I called and asked a couple weeks ago, they said there was no difference for me. I am going through Barrington Surgeons and Good Shepard Hospital. The way my Dr explained the difference is that the Centers are one stop shops where as I had to go see a therapist in Schaumburg. Otherwise it went very fast.

Having my first appointment this Tuesday...BMI of 40 with sleep apnea...I have BCBS of IL through my dads work which i believe is PPO.... I am really concerned about approval...I have read several threads and nothing is consistent....surgeons office said they no longer require six month supervised diet which i am postivs of but do they require a letter of medical necessity and weight history!? I have three years weight history about 35 but I moved to North Carolina And I cannot manage to get a hold of my medical records from my previous doctor. Any advice???

NO NEED TO BE CONCERNED. YOU CAN CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE TO SEE IF IF THE GROUP YOUR FATHER IS INCLUDED IN COVERS BARIATRIC SURGERY AND IF SO WHAT ARE THE STIPULATIONS OR DO THEY FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES OF BCBS-IL. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED HELP WITH THAT I WORK FOR BCBS-IL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
