My surgeons scheduling secretary tells me he may not be able to sleeve me on the date we planned. Says he has one sleeve scheduled and a meeting that he must attend... But not until 230pm! I'm a doctor at the same hospital I'm getting sleeved at and I am trying to be understanding! Since I practice internal medicine I'm not very informed about how OR schedules are organized but I do have some insight and I am just hoping that something can be worked out. I went through great lengths to get time off for recovery which involved changing not only my schedules and clinics but as well as my colleagues! Aaaaagh. Send me good luck vibes please. I'm freaking.

That stinks! However, it is better than being denied and having to plan a Mexico trip to have it done. I was just approved yesterday, and while I was hoping for early April, the earliest available date is May 14. Not ideal, but better than some have it. Either way, it won't be detrimental in the grand scheme of life.

Congratulations on your approval and good luck!

Missy

MX is a very excellent place to have this surgery. The docs are more than competent and quite frankly way more experience than here in the states.

I didn't say they weren't. I think being flexible with a surgery date is less of a hassle than planning a flight and a major surgery so far from home. I don't recall ever saying anything bad about going Mexico. That's where I was heading if I wouldn't have been approved.

So much for looking for the silver lining...

They ALL do the procedures in the late afternoon, it is so annoying. I asked the doctor if he was calm and rested, I could definately come back at another time, if he were tired or out of sorts. Sounds like you will get good care and VIP treatment.

When I was scheduled for surgery I was told they schedule the patients that have other underlying health issues first (hbp, diabetes, CHF, etc.). I don't know if this is the case at your hospital, but could be the reason.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
