Ask for some gas drops if they won't let you do the chewable. Walk (I know it hurts, but do it). I threw up for 3 days (nothing really came out but it killed my stomach). I have a weak gag reflex so that made it worse. Hang in there! It's been a week today for me and I actually feel great! Came back to work yesterday and felt horrible!

I refused my pain meds too. I ended up with Tylenol through the IV ( I forget the technical name) it helped and there was no nausea. Walk for the gas pain. It's all you can do. Suck on ice chips and rest. Then repeat.

What Beatriz said. Get them to call the MD. They can get you something for nausea and if you need pain meds, can change them. The gas cramping should be able to be alleviated as well. At least reduced. Simethicone maybe? Walking around to help get it moving.? Are you geting fluids IV?

I quickly signed up for this forum, just so I could answer you...I am at home surfing the web. I am day 7 post op, and just beginning to feel human. The day of surgery, i had the worst sharp chest pains, not nausea, and they explained it was the air pumped into me from the surgery, and that it would dissipate and go away. After much pain meds, and GETTING UP a few slow times, it did. They told me the truth. The next morning, however, the NAUSEA hit like gang busters. They also told me it would go away in a day..it really did, but they kept alternating Phenergan and Zofran every few hours for about 24 hours. When I was awake, I made myself get up and take a slow walk, go pee, and go back to bed to sleep. I made it through that 24 hours, but it felt like days..The best advice I can give is to make yourself get up, walk SLOWLY, and go back to bed. I promise it will pass..they told me the truth, and now I am at home, no pain, no nausea, but just moving slow from no energy! (from no calories!!) GOOD LUCK!! You can do it..it won't be much longer!

Hi. I had surgery on the 22nd. When I was recovering I had the gas pains constantly, a massive Migraine, nausea and I did throw up after the morphine shot. But finally I was able to try pills instead of the shot, that made a big difference with the nausea. The headache was taken care of by a migraine pill. I got up and walked the halls a lot, took gas drops and just kept praying to feel better. I'm home now, things are better although I'm surprised that I feel some hunger. I just keep sipping knowing that eventually things will be different. We didn't go threw all of this for nothing . Try to remember your goals after the weight starts to come off. I want to ride horses again without anyone thinking I'm too big for the horse. I also want to walk in a clothing store and actually find descent clothes . Good luck, keep your chin up.

And CarrieP..don't forget..."We have disguised major surgery with tiny incisions"..(my doc said that the next morning, and it sort of gave me the permission to feel like crap!) You (we) have had major surgery and it's ok and expected to feel bad. I promise it gets better!

WALK WALK WALK.. This is the only cure for the gas to dissipate. On one of my surgeries I learned the hard way and paid for it with a lot of pain and misery.

Oh, and it's fairly normal not to eat the first few days. Then you get ice chips and maybe broth depending on your issues. Everything your body needs is via IV so don't worry about tht part.. Just get yourself going and ... Did I mention walking? :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
