Ok, so I am new to this site and this is my first post but I really need help. I am 12 days post op and still having A LOT of nausea. At the 8 day mark (this past Friday) when I had my first post op visit, my doctor released me to pureed food but I can barely drink at this point because I'm constantly nauseated. Pretty much everything I've tried liquid and pureed makes the nausea worse. I'm taking small sips and when I attempt pureed food it's only a few tablespoons. The doctor changed my nausea medication on Friday and although it helps slightly more than the first one I still feel like crap. Has anyone else experienced this? The doctor said it would get better with time but seriously how long is that going to be? I want to go back to work next week but right now that's not looking like a good idea. Thanks everybody!

I'm still waiting to get the ball rolling for me to have surgery. I'm sure someone here will chime in with way more experience. But have you been having any bowel movements? Passing gas? Is stuff going in the right direction? Also, what were the two medications for nausea? Zofran, phenergan, reglan, compazine?

Even more importantly, are you urinating? How often and what color is your urine? Need to make sure you don't get dehydrated. If you're able to get enough Water down, great.

I did experience this and found out I wasn't getting enough fluids. I ended up severely dehydrated by week 3 and spend 3 days in the hospital. Even after 10 months I have a problem with dehydration and will start getting nauseous when it gets bad. You need to make sure you are pushing the liquids. I know it seems like it get worse when you do but the more you push them, the more you rehydrate and that feeling will go away. I was to the point of Water making me sick. That's when I went in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
