Canadian Doctors/Clinics

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have been talking to my family Dr., and he mentioned that I would be a good candidate for Lapband surgery. We have started the referal process in Alberta to have health care pay for it, but it looks like this could be a long wait.

I have decided to pay for the surgery myself due to the long wait times.

Is there a list of Dr.'s that perform the LapBand surgery in Canada? Does anyone know of any Dr.'s in Alberta that will perforn the surgery on a self pay basis.

Thanks,

Gaffer

Yes, I am a patient of Dr. Leung in Surrey, BC.

There is another surgeon in Delta....

Not sure about Calgary, but if you do a search, you might find someone closer. It would be a nuisance to come to BC everytime you needed a fill.

Good luck with your search. I know it isn't easy in the West.

I paid 12, 500. No extra charge for fills.

His secretary is an excellent source of information.

English is his second language and he doesn't have the best bedside manner, but I trust his skill implicitly.

You would have to ask about another doctor filling after his work.

I have been in touch with Dr. Coburn's clinic in Toronto, and they mentioned that I could get fills from a Dr. here in Calgary.

From what I have read good things about the Toronto clinic.

Hi Gaffer,

I went with Dr. Cobourn as well (while I was living in Sask). I'm 99% sure that there's no one in AB that you can self-pay with. You have another popular Ontario option as well. Of course I'm biased towards my surgeon/clinic (Cobourn), but the TLBC's patients would say the same. Just giving you some additional options :)www.tlbc.ca

Welcome, by the way! You too, Sara! Introduce yourselves :)

I'm from Alberta too (near Grande Prairie, about 5 hours north west of Edmonton) and I had my surgery in Ontario, (Dr. Cobourn) and I travel to Calgary for fills.

It's pretty inconvenient to travel so far, but realistically ,I've only had to go twice and I'm already down more than 50 pounds so I really can't complain. WORTH THE TRIP! Woohoo!:clap2:

I thought I had seen someone here that was scheduled for the Feb. 14 with Dr. Coburn. I am looking forward to it as well. I will be flying out of Calgary though seeing as that is where I live.

Have you recieved you pre-op package yet? Mine should be here soon.

Gaf

No I haven't gotten it yet either. I guess we'll both be toughing out the 2 week pre-op diet!! At least I can think I'm not doing it alone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
