Nicolanz 1,484 Posted March 26, 2013 A year but only because when I started to research it, I soon found out I was pregnant. I'm five months out with a 7 month old now.

Museum-Mama 196 Posted March 26, 2013 I dabbled for about a year thinking I might be able to have it covered by insurance, and then when I discovered I have funding to self pay, I dived right in! I have to wait to have the surgery, so while I wait out the 2.5 months, I am reading up on all I can. For me, the decision wasn't a metter of knowing all about it. I knew enough to make an educated decision, and really questioned the doctor I was choosing. In fact, I changed my mind from lap-band to sleeve because of the candid discussions we had that day. Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted March 26, 2013 18 months, but only because I had to wait that long for my stomach and system to heal from the lapband. I researched drs for several months and talked to at least a gazillion patients from the docs as I narrowed it down
gagirl0583 10 Posted March 26, 2013 I did very little research regarding the sleeve until I went to the seminar. I had read about the band for almost six months and was determined on the band; until I went to the seminar and almost every one in there was saying the band, once the seminar was over; I was rethinking the whole thing. My seminar was in January, and I had my first appointment in January. I told my doctor I wanted the band, then I got to reading and completely changed my mind. I went and talked to some people who had the band and sleeve and decided that the sleeve was a better opition for me. I have been on this form every since I found it and I am really happy with the decision I made. I go in for my pre-op 04 April 2013.
Yoli3925 67 Posted March 28, 2013 I researched for two years, because I was waiting for my insurance to cover the sleeve.
beba238 123 Posted April 1, 2013 2 years of lap band... decided on Sleeve so almost 1 yr 1/2 but in between getting all pre-op exams done and other thigns that got in the way. But no research we do will actually prepare us for the actual thing but having the knowledge before hand definitely helps. I am almost 2 weeks post op and i am happy i made this decision. 1 JosieMac reacted to this
desert19 93 Posted April 1, 2013 I went to my first seminar over 2 years before I had surgery. I decided after that seminar that if I did everything they said you had to do after surgery such as exercise, eat right, etc., then I could lose the weight and not have surgery. WRONG!! Then 4 months prior to my surgery I went to another seminar and this time the sleeve was being offered and I jumped at it. I was not going to wait 6 months to negotiate the insurance requirements so I went the self-pay route. I did do a lot of online research prior to my surgery and it just reinforced my decision to get the sleeve.

Newme48 104 Posted April 1, 2013 I work in an operating room and was fascinated with the sleeve procedure. After watching so many people have the surgery, I talked to the surgeon I work with and then started my journey. It took me 1 year to get ready when I could have had it 6 months ago. Again, this site has been a Godsend!
