I WANT A DIET COKE SO BAD...HOW CAN I FLAT IT OUT

Recommended Posts

I didn't say they shouldn't have soda, more like they should try to avoid it. I understand the soda Craving I used to crave it once a month. Not my place to tell people what to do. But my surgeon however did tell me that Carbonated beverages could land you in the hospital they make you gassy ect .. I myself had never drink diet soda I drink regular. Although I am overweight I am very health-conscious despite my soda habit. So I don't understand how people don't get how toxics soda and how more toxic diet soda is. I find soda to be a a gateway and happier finally gave it up. I personally did not get the surgery three years ago because I was not ready to give up carbonated beverages. I'm ready now.

When I was two months out and wanted a diet soda I shook it a few times and then poured it from up high over lots of ice. Wasn't the best tasting thing but filled a need for me. I'm 5 months out and I drink regular diet soda now... my doc says its ok (I had no ulcer issues and healed well) and I'm close to goal. Just be careful, check with your doc, and don't EVER transition to non-diet.

fast way to get flat coke is to put it on the railway track and wait for a train , very enjoyable watching that poison getting crushed lol

I read a poster one time about all the native effects of soda on your body. It had both diet and regular. There is no question that there are much better things to drink. I personally haven't had a soda since 2 weeks before my surgery, which was 8 weeks ago. But as one user put it..,it isn't like you are falling off the wagon by having a flat diet coke. One thing to remember tho..,is that the sweetener in diet coke is known to stimulate hunger. Not sure how that affects sleevers, since we had the part of our stomach removed that creates the "hungry" feelings.

My point about being nice was that if someone posts a question and people aren't nice in their response..,how long do you think the user will feel comfortable coming back here for support and help? My guess is not very. What is black and white to one poster, may not be to another. For example, I decided not to drink diet soda after surgery, on my own. Neither my bariatric surgeon or my gastro doc have any issue with diet soda. So just because one person has strong feelings about it doesn't mean everyone will. And more people will hear your opinions, if you don't berate them and treat them like an idiot.

IM craving these little things I use to enjoy.

Hi dat,

Looks like that head hunger is getting the best of you again! Well you know what I'm going to say!:) as far as soda flat or not you are very new out from surgery and I would talk to your surgeon first about that one...

I found diet coke one of the hardest things to quit. I stopped drinking it about a year before surgery because I was cutting out all sweeteners.

As a personal observation though, since 2 months after surgery I've started using sweeteners again (in my morning coffee) I'm experiencing more "cravings" now.. So I'm going to stop sweetening my coffee ( i used to drink it black before surgery ) and see if it makes a difference.

Good luck to you and remember the first few weeks for some of us are like kicking a drug habit

And not easy.

Laura

I am curious to know what the difference is in drinking say Crystal Light or Coke Zero? I am talking about the chemicals and sweeteners in them, not the carbonation. Any idea?

Ok, enough brow beating for goodness sake. If you want a diet soda every once in a while, my Dr's advice, don't deny yourself. Treat yourself with a reward every once in a while. The surgery is a tool but we are human. We all have cravings & to deny yourself is basically not being realistic. I put lots of ice in mine & let it get watered down a bit or you can leave it sit out without the lid on to get flat. I can only drink a small amount & find once I've satisfied my craving I'm good again for quite a while.

Hmmmmmmmmm that is what got us all into this fix.........people being nice.........some time truth is not supposed to be nice.....I am not trying to be cruel.......just wake you up.........and hell no it is not easy......you think this is easy??? I am a week out of surgery.

If you don't like my question ..then don't bother speaking on it. GOOOOO THAT WAYYYY ---->>>>> lol.

To the rest of you positive people...THANK YOU ...we're all here to ask each other for feed back..and advice. Some might not be great feed back or we might all agree but there is a way of saying things and speaking positively to someone while still trying to get your point across.

Be nice love. If this is easy for you' date=' then that is awesome. It isn't easy for everyone. And what the OP is asking isn't insane. My doctor says patients can drink diet pop as long as they let it go flat at 2 weeks.[/quote']

Thank YOU Kristen :-)

No Laura, not you, just in general in most posts. I know people are looking out for others beat interest & I completely understand that. I just feel that we really need a reality check once in a while & WLS is a tool. To say that you're never going to ever have something, like a diet soda, or whatever, is unrealistic.....maybe I'm just having a reality check kinda day

I have asked this myself many times. I don't think there is a difference except for the carbonation which my dr allows after I think it was 3 mo. I'm almost 2 years out and I have coke zero or dr pepper 10 almost every day and have noticed no difference in sleeve restriction or cravings, but that is just my experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
