What they are referring to is acid reflux. When you have reflux problems stomach acid comes back up in your throat when you lay flat. This is a result of being overweight or having your band too tight. I have never really experienced either. I have had my band for 19 months and have never had the feeling of choking even when having a really bad PB. I do get the stuck feeling, more of a sharp pain in the middle of my chest, what some refer to as a golfball. I try walking, it usually makes it pass, if not I pb and it is gone. Never a choking sensation though. Hope this helps. ~Mandy

oh yes that does help quite abit.:)

Again thank you all for helping me understand , I really really do appreciate it

A great way to avoid taking big bites is to use baby silverware. I bought the disposable animal shaped spoons and forks, made my dixie (I think) for about $4 (8 spoons, 8 forks), they are reusable but cheap enough to toss. I carried a set in my purse for restaurant use. They were great, small and really helped control the size of my bites. ~Mandy

Chew Chew Chew do not let yourself get so hungry that you eat too fast. I can eat anything if I chew it to a paste. Go slow. This is what my Dr said and as long as I follow his orders it is fine. When I do not chew it sometimes gets stuck, not bad but not fun.

My regret is that I was not banded sooner. Money was hard to come by. I went to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and am very happy.

HI, I am not yet banded, but, I have a phobia of vomiting...so I can relate..Just remember you will not die from food being stuck in your food pipe..only if it blocks off your wind pipe..and that isnt what pbing is. I am going to be so obsessive with chewing that I will probably end up pureeing everything I ever eat again..lol geri;)

oK NOW totally hit the nail on the hammer.. I have a fear of choking, that is why I dont eat jolly ranchers or any hard candy.. nor would I let my son.

I understand the chewing really good , its just when I think of me choking or having esphagus problems (that I have read about on here) it terrifies me. Again it just may be worst cause senerios

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
