So I had my blood work done and I received a call from my surgeons nurse saying that I should start taking Iron and Vitamin D supplements because they are both low. I'm confused as to what is a normal iron and Vitamin D anyone know? And will this cause any issues with the surgery? I'm kinda worried

low Vitamin D is pretty ubiquitous--almost everyone my surgeon sees has it, according to my RD. It's gotten a lot of attention lately in the press and in medical studies bc it may be tied to preventing certain types of chronic disease. Find out if they want you to take D2 or D3. Definitely a difference and different schools of thought. I use the drops--a lot easier to take. there's prescription strength and OTC. Good luck!

My 6 month ones came back low too but nothing too bad. My RN told me to take D3 1000iU pills for 3 months and it should regulate themselves and then just make sure im taking a Multivitamin with Iron. She said almost all people are low on Vitamin D and the Iron is just from the surgery but nothing to worry about just to take the multivitamin with the Iron. I also take a Calcium pill with added D in it to help out. Hope this helps!

It should cause no problems at all. Be grateful they caught it, especially if just at a routine check-up/physical. :)

I took iron up until the day before surgery, per surgeons orders.

10 weeks out and iron and vitamin d levels are normal. :)

Lucky! I just had my 3 month check up and labs and I am low in Iron, D3, Calcium, Protein, B1 and B12! Taking supplements of all of them except the B1 and B12 and I am taking injections of those. Funny because the B1 is usually related to alcoholism but I don't even drink! These are all reasons why I've been feeling so crappy lately though...really fatigued!

I haven't had my surgery yet. Hopefully end of August . I'm worried about my Iron being low though. The nurse says it may be due to "aunt flow" lol but I can't stop being worried . I should be starting some prescribed iron and Vitamin d the surgeon wants me to take for 12 weeks and see how my blood work looks after that. I never suffered from iron deficiency till these last 10 years... :(

Mine was VERY low. Single digits. :( I started taking iron in the middle of December and had surgery January 11th. All cases are different, but I was fine for surgery.

There is some anecdotal evidence through some studies that show having enough D3/Calcium prior to weight loss improves results. Do a web search on this to see what you find. I didn't read any of it until a very long 4 week stall. I started the D3/Calcium and my loss picked back up. Could have been from the supplements, maybe not. I don't take them every single day, but I take them more days than not.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
