What should I have for dinner?

Recommended Posts

Tonight we have a standing appointment which generally means that we would eat out. My husband asked me what I thought I wanted. I am still on soft food so where can I find healthy soft food options. Any suggestions?

I believe so. That sounds like heaven on a plate. But I don't know if I'm ready for that. The cheddar bay biscuits will be too much for me!!!

Aren't refried Beans really fatty? I heard they are made with lard.

Not at my local Mexican joint--I specifically asked the manager, because I'm a vegetarian. When I buy them to eat at home I get the "vegetarian" or "fat free" refried Beans in a can--they are both lard-free (you can read the ingredients to be sure, but they can't be fat-free or veg if they have lard). You don't have to worry too much about fat at this point bc you are eating so little, but I still recommend asking whether they have lard when you eat out if it is a concern.

If you eat fish, you could go to any restaurant that serves fresh fish--just get it cooked any way other than fried.

You could also have soup--just make sure you chew it really well and nothing with a lot of fibrous veggies right now.

I also liked veggie chili and hummus at the local Middle Eastern joint when I was on soft foods (could do baba ganouj too). Didn't even miss the pita bread. I'm a vegetarian so don't eat fish--which is why Middle Eastern and refried Mexican Beans worked best for me. Not the easiest to eat out at this stage but it can be done and it's not bad if you focus on the company and the experience more than the actual food.

Hope you have fun!

Soft scrambled eggs with cheese is a good choice! you won't fit 2 eggs in and the cheese adds protein!!

I ate seared ahi tuna about 2.5 weeks out, just slow but it dissolves in your mouth.....yummy, still a weekly staple in my diet.

Ahi tuna and canned tuna are night and day different. ahi tuna is very moist and basically eaten raw, really high in Protein :-). Hope you pick something yummy, I hate eating out, it seems like a chore and I waste most of the food. We do Japanese and I eat and appetizer and it feeds me for two to three meals.

Agreed they are night and day different, but the mind is a powerful thing. The connection is still there mentally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
