6 days out, and.........

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today is my first day back at work. This morning I woke up with bad, I mean bad pain on my left side. Feels very weird, so I called the TLBC and she told me that if they were able to fix my hital hernia, this may be the reason for the pain. I guess it's not even a week yet. I just hope nothing is wrong with the band. I'm able to drink lots, but it's just the pain now. Everything else is good..... Has anyone here had thier hernia done at the same time and felt like this? If I did have band problems this early, what other symptoms would I have?

I will see the nurse tomorrow, so hopefully she could shed some light.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Doriana

Does that mean that they did fix your hernia, or she's just not sure?!

Do a search for 'hernia', and see what comes up. I've seen lots of people on here who've had hernia's fixed at the same time... so you're not alone.

And the pain, whether its from a hernia, or just normal post-surgery pain is normal I'm sure. Don't go getting paranoid! Your band is fine! Just stick to your post-op diet, and don't over-exert yourself!

oh, and are you sure it's not gas pain? Is it in your shoulder at all ?

Here's just one thread I found talking about it... one person said

"I had my hiatal hernia repaired the second time around. The length of recovery wasn't any longer, but I do think the agitation to the diaphragm/shoulder pain was a bit more problematic due to the extra agitation from the repair."

Yeah, that's prob. gas pains... kind like a stabbing pain? I got them off and on for quite a while (nothing too bad, or worth taking pain killers for, cause they were gone as soon as I noticed them) I still think I get them now and then ?!

Likely no worries Doriana....don't forget, it has ONLY been 6 days!!! I didn't experience shoulder pain but I know that a LOT of people do....very common.

Hi Doriana,

I just got done yesterday, and they fixed a hernia in me too. Still feeling my shoulder a lot, and passing gaslike crazy. Gas pain can show up in wierd places and be quite painful if you don't keep actively expelling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
