5 weeks out and still have very swollen stomach

Recommended Posts

hello! I am 5 weeks out from surgery and doing really well. My only issue is that my stomach area is still very swollen. The swelling is above my belly button and seems strange because I can tell my stomach is losing weight below my belly button. At 2 weeks my surgeon said it was fluids that would reabsorb but if that is what it is, it is still there! I don't have pain but I'm wondering what it is and when it will go away! Anyone have a similar experience or any advice?

Yes I am at 2 weeks, have a large bulge, I posted this question this morning. Essentially what I've learned is that its from the healing process and also may be scar tissue. There was a poster who said that they called their doctor about it because they thought it was a hernia and that was their answer.

I'm curious about this too. I still have the bulge above my belly button, but have noticed that below it has gotten smaller. At my last check up, my doctor explained that the mass that I feel under the incision site is still healing and will eventually go away. I guess I should have asked when. LOL

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
