I'm 1 week postop and I'm afraid to weigh myself. I don't want to become obsessed with the scale but I do want to mark my progress.

I just needed to share my worries.

One week post op sounds like a perfect time to weigh yourself. It will keep you motivated and let you see that everything you went through this past week was worth it! Then you can weigh yourself in another week from now if you don't want to obsessively weigh yourself. Although I'm sure there are worse things you could obsess on. Good luck! :)

Hey weary traveler! Assume you made it home safe and sound?

As for the scale, try once a week and see if that works for you. I have been weighing every day and I probably shouldn't.

Wait for the scale at your doctors, I only weigh myself every two weeks, you will make yourself crazy if you weigh yourself everyday. My first follow up appointment I was down 21lbs, happy day!

I can understand this. I tend to obsess about my scale when I am doing any type of weight loss thing. I then avoid it at all cost when I am not. My Dr. wants me weighing weekly during this 6 months supervised weight loss time and I said that I was fine with weekly but wanted to avoid more. She said she wanted it to quit being an obsession and just normal. I know it will be hard for me not to weigh daily, multiple times a day, after every pee and poop and naked and clothed... he he... after surgery. I guess I can understand why my Dr. wants me to start not obsessing now. I am weighing once a week, and I am going to avoid anymore, or any less. I think as someone with an eating disorder, and history of weight gain that it is probably pretty important that I weigh weekly, for the rest of my life, to stay on target.

Great idea! I have follow up schedule a week from tomorrow and I will try and wait until then for my 1st official weigh in.

I think that's a good idea Amanda... they pump you full of IV fluids in the hospital and you have had a lot of mental and physical stress...so just enjoy being home... rest....walk... get your Protein in and let go of the worry about weight for just a little while. :)

I actually gave my scale away…I have always been one that obsessed with the Scale.. I will only weigh at the Doctors office once a month. ….Then I don’t even know if I am having a Stall… It works better for me mentally. Good Luck.

Agreed. My husband took the battery out of our scale. He puts it back in on Saturdays so I can weigh myself. It's too easy to become obsessive!

Totally understand Amanda!! I barely lost anything for the first 10 days... I got so obsessed with the scale .... And was so sure that once again this wouldn't work either!! But today is 25 days sleeved and I am down 17 pounds. Would have been great to only weigh once a week.. But I can't resist my morning weigh in!!!

Don't do it Amanda! I am scale obsessed I weigh 3x daily and in the beginning I was going nuts because initially after surgery I gained with all the fluids they gave me over 5days I was in hospital. I was 14 days out before registering any loss so I was going insane those days.

Ditto. It was 10 days after surgery until I lost all the Fluid weight. Then I lost 12! It is weird how your body works but it will work. I want to weigh myself several times a day too and fight it. I only allow myself to get on the scale now once a week.

I'm so glad I didn't weigh myself!! This morning my unwelcome Aunt Flow arrived. I couldn't imagine the results full of postop fluids and hormonal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
