Researching like Mad!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

Great to be here with all of this experience. I am new to LapBand, researching everything that I can. I am just starting the process and am attending a meeting Thursday night (11/30) to learn more. I have fought weight my whole life and am ready to get this under control. Will appreciate any information that anyone can give regarding what to expect and how to get started!

Welcome, congratulations on your meeting. This is a great site, just take your time, look around and read some of everything.

Hi Mlevel. Does that mean Midlevel??? I agree with the last person. Do your reading, research the band and the gastric bypass. There's several sites which describe them all, and then you can narrow in on a procedure and check out individual sites too. One place with some helpful info is

obesityhelp.com This might help you on your path to control! Best wishes! Cat

Hi MLevel!

You can't do too much research. Be sure that this is what you want - and then go for it!

Just so you know - I love my band!! :]

Hugs!

Howdy Mlevel, I think the best way to research this is exactly what you are doing. Read, read, and post. Then read some more.

I don't know if there is anything you can do to truly prepair yourself, since this is such an individula journey. It's like telling somene what it will be like to give birth, or go skiing or cooking your first holiday dinner, we can only tell you what it is like for us.

Also, people who are on support boards tend to be here because they/we need on going support. Please don't let that discourage you.

Strength and Courage!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
